DNA tests ‘Prove’ that Jack the Ripper was a Polish Immigrant named Aaron Kosminski
Daily Telegraph ^ | September 7, 2014 | Staff

THE search to uncover the identity of Jack the Ripper appears to be over.

DNA on a shawl found near one of the victims, Catherine Eddowes, reportedly contains a match to both her and one of the chief suspects, Aaron Kosminsky.

The Polish hairdresser, who moved to England with his family in 1881, was committed to a mental asylum at the peak of Ripper hysteria.

Is this Jack the Ripper? Revealed? ... DNA evidence reportedly confirms that Aaron Kosminski is Jack the Ripper. Picture: Supplied The breakthrough came when Dr Jari Louhelainen, an expert in historic DNA, was commissioned to study a shawl found with Eddowes, the second-last “confirmed” victim of the Ripper more than 125 years ago.

A Jewish, (name sounds Jewish) gay hairdresser who ended up being meshuggah as well being committed to a mental asylum at the peak of Ripper hysteria.

You see, crime by immigrants have been a long festering problem. This is just utterly fascinating. I find it impossible to believe a murder mystery going back over a hundred years, where the murderer is surely dead being identified. Modern forensics is truly a marvel of science.

Many of the other suspects were also immigrants who committed other crimes and murders.

There are a lot of Polish immigrants in London and the UK right now who are upsetting the British electorate big time whether they are criminals or not.

What makes you presume he is gay? Hairdresser?

Just as you assume Jewish because of the name - which to me is nothing more than “Polish”.

I like watching “Cold Case Files”. They are solving a lot of cold cases using DNA testing on saved evidence.

A man’s DNA on a prostitute’s clothing???? That’s it. He killed her. Case closed.

Given that he was already a strong suspect for other reasons, a positive DNA match would probably be enough to convict him today. This is getting really close, if it hasn't already gotten there, to beyond reasonable doubt range.

I wouldn't be too sure on this one. The supposed shawl has never been associated with the victim, and no one knows where it came from. The author makes a big deal of it being the same pattern as the victim's dress, but then claims it couldn't have belonged to the victim, but must have been placed there by the Ripper as some kind of "clue." The DNA is 126 years old, and the author claims some kind of unique process has been developed to extract usable mDNA, which he associated with the killer and victim through their maternal descendants.

The problem is, the guy is using this information to hawk a book. If I were cynical, I'd point out that by going to the killer's and victim's descendants and obtaining samples of their DNA, he's already got all the material he needs for the purpose of "discovering" DNA on the shawl.

Unless the results can be independently confirmed by an impartial party or parties, I'm inclined to think this a hoax.

And of course, the Leftist loons that post at Wikipedia somehow manage to tie the Daily Mail's coverage of this revelation in with their coverage of global warming (which is no doubt spot-on since the warmongerers hate it).

I say that one match is not proof he was Jack The Ripper.

If his DNA had been found on more than one of the victims, then it could be considered proof.

Still, it only could be used as proof he killed the one woman. Not that he was a serial killer.

Whether or not he was a strong suspect depends on who you talk to. Sir Robert Anderson is about the only contemporary associated with the case who thought Kosminski committed the murders. There are a number of known problems with Anderson's claims, many of which were made decades after the crime.

It also depends on whether the five "canonical" murders are the only murders committed by The Ripper. The police at the time did not believe the murderer was limited to those five, and the number of canonical murders has only been settled because those are the ones that all Ripperologists agree solidly on.

But it is possible that the Whitechapel murderer was responsible for as many as six murders after the canconical five, and perhaps two which bear strong resemblance before the canonical five. So maybe thirteen murders, or maybe eleven, or maybe just five.

The police file on the Whitechapel case actually contains nine murders. This is a problem for Kosminski theorists, because the last in the file, Frances Coles -- who is mentioned in the article, was absolutely murdered after Kosminski was locked up in the Colney Hatch Asylum.

There is also the problem that Kosminiski fits only the description of one eyewitness who probably saw the Ripper with Eddowes, and that witness told the police he did not get a very good look and would have a great deal of difficulty identifying the murderer if he saw him again. Other witnesses, who saw men in the company of the murdered women did not describe a figure who fit Kosminski's age or body type.

Finally, keep in mind that this is a mitochondrial test, which is a very weak form of DNA identification. It is not like the DNA evidence used in most contemporary murder investigations.

Notice that in the article the same old tired lie, that the shawl was found by the body of the victim, is repeated. No such shawl was found. The inventory of items found with the victim was carefuly catalogued as evidence; no shawl was amongst them. The victim was a twopenny prostitute who was out very early in the morning, following a drunken binge and a short stay in a jail cell, looking for a customer to bring in the two or threepence required for her to buy a bed. Earlier in the day the boyfriend had pawned his boots so they could eat and have a place to sleep; she spent the money in drink. Had she possessed a valuable item such as the shawl, it would doubtless have been pawned as well.

This is nothing like the Richard III discovery, where the DNA evidence fit the historical evidence hand-in-glove. To me it smells very much like a hoax.
