The campaign to separate Scotland from the rest of the UK is in the lead for the first time ahead of the independence referendum later this month, according to a new poll.

A YouGov survey found that the pro-independence campaign, led by the Scottish first minister Alex Salmond, had a two point lead of 51 per cent over the unionists’ 49 per cent.

The poll for the Sunday Times is the latest evidence of a dramatic surge for the Yes campaign, which has seen the campaign recover from a 22 point deficit in just one month.

Why not? The Scots turned against the Stuart dynasty far more absolutely than the English did during the civil war. The Scots accepted the house of Hanover just as much as the English did.

Well, the latter ARE Scottish by descent. The RF being German is a myth.

I have already explained on FR many times that the Hanoverians were related to the Stuarts by James VI/I’s daughter. And that’s why they took the throne in 1714.

I didn’t question how non-Catholic you were.
Knox was my man.

My statement however stands.

We in this country have no ‘royalty’.
So this is all silliness really.

Have you been to geo 1 tomb in Westminster?
of course not! He’s buried in Deutchland.

As far as I understand the welfare rate in Scotland is much higher than in England, so the Scottish really depend on England as the Atlas who carries their burden. Not to say England is some capitalist mecca - it is not.

It seems unreasonable that 50+ percent get to call the shots for the rest. Seems to be a 66% test would be more just.

Indeed. I mean I love Scottish history and much about the Scots in general (they are much politer and kinder than the English). But they have an unusual history, going from liberty lovers to statist huggers (the Stuarts). At this moment they are in the statist camp.

I will say, based ridiculously on my facebook friends, that Scots are amazingly socialistic. Add to that my old friend, Jane, who I’ve lost touch with, and it completes an incomplete picture. But, to be honest, I don’t follow Scottish history or politics so I don’t really know...hope it all works out for our pals in GB.

You might want to read FR a bit more. Seems the idea of a new CFA has lots of fans and more by the day.

That aside It remains awfully ridiculous to hold your view when the very concept of America was built on the idea of casting off oppressive government. Which is what the Scots are doing. Which is what people in America mean when they bitch incessantly about one party rule. Whether or not it works for them, we will see. Whether or not they are socialist idiots or modern versions of the founders will be determined by the results.

A new CFA has a lot of support. The old one doesn't.

The argument about oppressive government only works IF you believe the government they are casting off is "oppressive". A considerable number (probably still the majority) dont believe that. Even if you think that Westminster is no longer representing the best interests of Scotland (a reasonable argument that many in parts of England could relate to) the Yes campaign plans tighter links with the EU. So basically, they are fighting for an independence from London that they will then give away to Brussels. Makes no sense to me, unless the prime emotional motivation of the independence camp is watching "Braveheart" too much.

That could/and likely will happen. But it’s their right as humans to make that choice. What gets me is that anyone here in Obama’s America could be against the idea of people fighting for what they believe.

Because before long, WE are going to be faced with Balkinization and such choices ourselves thanks to the 50/50 split here.

Ok, but just remember the Unionists are fighting for what THEY believe in too.
