Seeking to counter Russian aggression, NATO leaders approved plans Friday to create a rapid response force with a headquarters in Eastern Europe that could quickly mobilize if an alliance country in the region were to come under attack.

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said the new unit would send a clear message to potential aggressors, namely Russia.

"Should you even think of attacking one ally, you will be facing the whole alliance," he declared as a two-day NATO summit in southern Wales drew to a close.

Deterrence, after the fact!
Not a reaction, honests!
It’s, uh, being proactive!

deterrence, after the fact

Ukraine isn't in NATO. NATO has no business getting involved. It would not have even had a coup if the US hadn't instigated for it and continue to prop up the Kiev gov.

For some reason, I doubt Russia is afraid or intimated by NATO. Especially the Obama homosexual, transgender, lesbian army, navy, marines. /spit

Ukraine had asked to be in NATO awhile back, got rebuffed.
This is “deterrence, after the fact”.

This current kerfuffle cropped up after Ukraine showed interest in joining NATO.

You believe the US should be dragged into a war with a nuclear power over the Ukraine? How about we put troops on our southern border instead to stop the invasion of our own country.

How about they headquarter it in Budapest? There’s a memorandum about security agreements floating around there, I think.

Why isn’t NATO bombing Mexico? It is invading its neighbor to the north.

I think the original fight was France and Libya...and then we showed up and made everything worse...until it got the worstest it could ever get.

Let’s see...what country will make up (most) of the RDF? If you guessed the “United States,” give yourself a gold star.

And who will move the troops to the hotspot? Why, none other than Air Mobility Command (USAF), which already performs that task for much of NATO. Need UAV support? Call the USA; need AWACS? NATO has more than two dozen E-3s at Gilenkirchen, Germany, but many of those crew members are Americans. How about airborne SIGINT collection? Pretty much the USAF and the RAF, which recently acquired its own RC-135s.

You get the idea. NATO will fight to the last American, but Barry won’t stand up to Putin. He’ll stage a little ethnic uprising, just as he did in Ukraine, and one (or more) of the Baltic countries will return to Moscow’s orbit. After that (and the cut-off of Russian oil to western Europe), NATO will permanently fracture, because it will have no credibility and no unity. With no leadership from the U.S., it will be every country for themselves.
