24,639,000: Record Number of Foreign-Born Hold Jobs in U.S.

(CNSNews.com) - The number of foreign-born individuals holding jobs in the United States hit a recorded high of 24,639,000 in August, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLS has been tracking the number of foreign-born workers annually since 2005 and monthly since 2007.

The BLS does not distinguish between foreign-born individuals who are in the United States legally and those who are here illegally.

“The foreign born are those who reside in the United States but who were born outside the country or one of its outlying areas to parents who were not U.S. citizens,” the BLS explains. “The foreign born include legally-admitted immigrants, refugees, temporary residents such as students and temporary workers, and undocumented immigrants. The survey data, however, do not separately identify the numbers of persons in these categories.”

Foreign-born workers

The 24,639,000 foreign-born workers who held jobs in the United States in August was up 557,000 from July, when 24,082,000 foreign-born workers held jobs. These are non-seasonally adjusted numbers.

In the year from August 2013 to August 2014, the number of foreign-born workers holding jobs in the United States climbed by 806,000, from 23,833,000 to 24,639,000. During the same August-to-August period, the number of native-born Americans holding jobs increased from 120,676,000 to 122,008,000, a climb of 1,332,000.

Of the 146,647,000 people with jobs in the United States in August (in the BLS’s non-seasonally adjusted data), the 24,639,000 foreign-born workers equaled 16.8 percent of the jobholders. But of the 2,138,000 increase in jobholders from August 2013 to August 2014, the 806,000 increase in foreign-born jobholders equaled 37.7 percent of the total.

1 out of every SIX job-holders in the US is not an native American by birth.

I'm gonna go a short ways out on a limb and suggest that it's 1 out of every 7 that is not an America citizen... guessing 1 of 8 at the most.

pure insanity

It surely is. A good number of those jobs should be held by U.S. citizens trained in our colleges, our liberal educational system is part of the problem.

Then there's all the illegals, deport them all by making it impossible for them to be employed or collect any kind of welfare.

Yet, 92,269,000 Americans 16 and older did not participate in the labor force in August, as the labor force participation rate matched a 36-year low of 62.8 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

and as a pre-Revolutionary War U.S. born and raised citizen ;
I am kept at slightly above minimum wages , no benefits , and as part time as possible , in 3 different jobs , so none of the companies have to cover me with any health care , as mandated under the ACA .... meanwhile most immigrants and illegals in our community make upward to $15/hr with benefits or completely under the table with employers not batting an eye about it .

It surely is. A good number of those jobs should be held by U.S. citizens trained in our colleges, our liberal educational system is part of the problem.

Let me put a real life example. I needed a person on my staff and we started with a temp. We could only find a well educated foreigners to fill the temp. The person seemed good at first but turned out to be very poor. What I learned is many countries university systems are not very good so MBA can mean very little.

When we able to hire a staff person we advertised and I got tons of foreigners. Many of them are staying in the US by getting more education and working internship to internship. It was difficult to find a US person for the job which is needed because of customer interaction. I finally found one person. Luckily he/she was good because we had no other US candidates.

The problem is that our colleges are cranking out tons of psychology, sociology, communication, media, journalism and art majors, but not enough accountants, economist, finance, math and engineering majors. The college system is corrupt because they are more than happy to grade inflate in worthless majors to keep classroom and dorm-rooms full. Our University system is still above most countries but unfortunately it is willing to prostitute itself out to maintain over inflated budgets.

Great post, you said precisely what I was thinking but I failed to say it.

So many graduates with many different lib arts degrees can’t find a job and we don’t have near enough graduate in the science and math fields.

Why the hell not?

(Rhetorical question)
