Ukraine's Pro-War Party Is Collapsing In The Polls

Ukrainian politicians in favour of the military campaign against Donetsk, Lugansk, and Russia, have suffered a dramatic loss of support across the country.

This was reported in Kiev on September 3. In the first countrywide poll taken since the Ukrainian Army took heavy casualties and retreated from the Donbass at the end of August, voters who had supported the pro-war Radical Party, led by Oleg Lyashko, have dropped from 22.2% to 13.1%. Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk’s bloc, Patriots of Ukraine, which includes the police and national guard minister, Arsen Avakov, has collapsed from more than 9% to 3.7%. Yulia Timoshenko’s Fatherland party has fallen below her former proteges to 3.5%. The Svoboda (“Freedom”) party of Oleg Tyagnibok, the candidate of the US Embassy in Kiev and the State Department, and Pravy Sektor (“Right Sector”), the party behind the national guard formations fighting in the east, have lost virtually all their support outside the far western regions of the country; across the Ukraine they are now polling just 2.5% and 1%.

The previous (July) version of this poll had this interesting result: 40% in the east say they will refuse to vote and 20% in the south. This compared with 3.7% in the west and 6.6% in the north.

I don't see this new September result broken down by region yet.

There are no Ukraine politicians in favor of war, it is the Russians who attacked Ukraine. Those who want to defend their country from invasion are now called “pro-war”?

Cerca 1993, Ukraine had nuclear armaments I understand and they disarmed. I don’t know if that is important here (there would be lots to analyze, not just a superficial understanding), too bad they have to submit to this aggressor nation, Russia, though.

I’d say the real loser in all of this is the US State Department. They created the mess.

“Sounds like Vlad Putin won after all.”

Putin “lost” when Obama/Renaisance was successful at creating chaos in Ukraine, resulting in a violent coup.

He has regained much of that loss by retaining Crimea and the most productive region of Ukraine, leaving Europe a complete economic basketcase that it will have to subsidize for decades.

There are no “pro-war” or “against-war” parties in Ukraine, only patriots and traitors - the war strips all pastels leaving only bold colors.

I'm not sure how Osama Obama & Pals caused *this* one.Unless you're referring to explicit,or implicit, promises that might have made to protect Ukraine no matter what.Otherwise it simply seems that Vlad Putin wasn't gonna allow them to cozy up to the EU.

Finally some sense. Putin is our ally against Islam. Europe welcomes Muslims with open arms and the EU is becoming as oppressive as all socialist entities are. Why should we encourage the encroachment of the EU and NATO right up against Russia’s borders? How would the US react if Russian put bases in Canada and Mexico?

This concern with Europe is nuts anyway. Let them work out their own problems for a change. The US has major problems along our borders and in the Middle East. We are now sending people to Africa, too. Then there is China and N. Korea to consider.

Top this all with our own corrupt government and our debt, and I really wonder why the Ukraine is on the radar screen at all. Some people still think it’s 1950.

Russia didn’t start Maidan, nor did Putin hand out cookies to the protesters.

Putin - our ally? Have you missed your pills? The darkest of evil on our planet is not my ally - not sure what ‘gods’ you serve.

They encouraged and supported (and most likely even instigated) the coup against the elected government of Ukraine.

Maidan and cookies are Ukrainian affairs, what Putin has to do with that? Just cut the crap about “brotherhood of Slavs” - we all see how Russian savages burn down entire Ukrainian villages with all inhabitants.

Elected? Have you witnessed or observed the “election”? Or your comrade commander says so?

I love your sarcasm! John Hellman is true Putinista citing a poll riffled with sampling error first reported in “Dancing with Bears.”

It was as fair of an election as the one that put Yushenko/Tymoshenko in office.

Are you seriously going to claim that acclamation by a mob is more legitimate?

Get a life. It’s over. There were no problems in Ukraine until the US tried to cause trouble as payback for getting humiliated over Syria. The US thought they would stick a thumb in Putin’s eye by getting Ukraine to break away and join the West. well, the US took a gamble and lost...but the real losers are the Ukrainians. The Ukrainians were used as pawns and were thrown away...just like those in the Bay of Pigs.
