School bans ‘unsupervised cartwheels’ on playground

QUEENSLAND, Australia – Students and parents at Peregian Springs State School are flipping out after officials banned unsupervised playground cartwheels and handstands to prevent injuries.

Two children at the school have been injured recently – one broke a wrist, the other was kicked in the head – while performing “cheerleader type stunts,” prompting principal Gwen Sands to issue a ban on Monday in the school’s newsletter, SunshineCoastDaily.au reports.

“All students have been advised that under no circumstances are they allowed to perform cart wheels, handstands or any other type of gymnastic move at school unless they are properly supervised by a trained PE teacher,” according to the announcement. “It would be appreciated if you could remind your children about the safety issues involved with these types of moves.”

The news site reports the announcement “caused a stir and left many parents wondering what would be next on the ‘ban’ wagon.”

“When are we going to let kids just be kids?” local government minister David Crisafulli questioned. “I respect the right of the school to protect their students but I also respect the right of children to have a happy childhood, and surely we can find a middle ground in all of this.”

And yet that damned Kenyan continues to welcome “unaccompanied” illegal alien invaders into the country to live with the Border Patrol guys. This whole world is ****** up!

The only way people learn is to make mistakes. I would hazard a guess that most of America’s mass shooters never got into fights with their peers, so they never learned the consequences of their actions until they were teenagers or young adults. I know that the Left rejoices at every school shooting, not only as an excuse to enact totalitarian policies but as a sacrament to their psychopathy.

I’m glad I was able to be a kid during my childhood—before diving boards vanished from swimming pools and teeter-totters, jungle gyms, merry-go-rounds, metal slides and tall swings disappeared from playgrounds.

All those were removed at the latter part of my childhood. The plastic crap started to show up when I was getting too old for it. So lucky.

Children will now be required to remain seated in their classrooms during recess.

you are right- I’ve seen grown adults do just plain ridiculously stupid stuff that they would have learned is against the laws of physics as children if not for the helmet, safety strap, and bubble-wrap nanny state they grew up in.

Stupidity doesn’t even come close to a proper word.

So, now they can watch as the kid injures themselves.

Big Wheels came in a bit after I was a kid but I did jump a junked Mustang convertible (Sideways not longways) on my Schwinn Lemon Peeler. It took us two days to find enough stuff to make the ramp. I bent the back rim landing. Man my Mom was pissed (about the rim)

When I was eight Dad brought home an old mini bike with a 3HP B&S that smoked like it was on fire, had a wood block that rubbed the back wheel for brakes, and had no return spring on the accelerator. It scared the crap out of me when it threw a rod one day that just missed my leg coming out.

Used to jump that thing over all kinds of stuff, climb dirt hills, run through the brush on cow trails...

Dad brought home all kinds of fun stuff like that; knives, guns, bikes.

Now, kids are doped up with ADD drugs, brainwashed, and constantly policed. I’d hate to be a kid today.

I always wanted to be able to do a cartwheel or a round off. Never could. Makes me sad to think about it. But those kids who could, my kids all could, should be allowed to do it.

Gee, however did the generations ever survive without cartwheel supervision? *sigh*

That’s soo cool !!!

I recall having a mini bike just like that. We beat the crap out of it. Those B & S bikes were awesome.

We built “Go carts” from scraps of wood, bicycle wheels mixed with “Big Wheel” wheels or whatever we could find. We figured out how to build a steering system without the internet or any adult supervision. Raced each other downhill at 30+ mph with no helmet only to crash either along the way or at the end of the hill.

My entire youth was without adult supervision. But when my mom said “be home before dark”, I was home. What I did was never questioned. Did my best to keep from being arrested, while if it were today, I’d be in jail. Just mischief.

Being completely free to run around and try anything that came to mind was amazing. That certainly doesn’t exist today. We had no one and I mean no one, that told us what or how to do anything. We figured out everything on our own. From fixing a broken throttle on a mini bike to hot wiring a bulldozer. Building dozens of BMX bicycles from spare parts for the sole purpose of jumping as far and as high as possible off ramps we built from the wood we “borrowed” from the construction sites that surrounded us.

Self inflicted broken arms and smashed heads was the norm.

I wouldn’t trade my youth for anybody’s. My 22 year old daughter calls me when she needs to break into a car/house that someone has locked their keys in/out. She called the other day in a panic, long story, to see if I could walk her through hot-wiring her Grandmothers car so she could get it home. She called once when her grandmothers car alarm wouldn’t shut off. She had the cops looking at her and while she convinced them that she was authorized to drive the car, she called me because every effort the cop took to turn the alarm off failed. The cop went as far as disconnecting the battery for her and that still didn’t work. Two minutes on the phone and I solved the problem.

The point is that there are so many people that are in positions of authority that have absolutely no fricken idea about how things work.

They need to “check” with someone else, they need to be “told” because they don’t have the experience or are unable solve a problem without proper “Authorization”.

This is the death of America.

That’s it: freedom to run, and when we had it I never knew anyone that got seriously hurt.

Nobody is really free anymore. You need to be free and take your knocks and scrapes to learn how to live.

It’s OK for municipalities to construct skateboard parks with steel rails, concrete curbs, ramps, and parabolic jumps for skateboarders to kill themselves, but all those who want to somersault on the grass,...BEWARE!

How do they apply for a cartwheel permit? Is it a long process?
