The eyes of America remain focused on Ferguson, Missouri, gripped by the aftermath of Michael Browns death. The anguish of Ferguson from the murder of an unarmed young person of color, to the lack of accountability fueled by a sheer disregard for black lives is all too familiar for Florida.
Our state has been the backdrop for a number of high-profile stories that have similarly illuminated Americas tragic legacy of killing unarmed people of color. There was Trayvon Martin, 17, who was walking down the street in Sanford in 2012 when he was followed and killed by George Zimmerman, a self-appointed neighborhood watchman. Police made no arrest until six weeks later.
Fast forward several months to when Jordan Davis, also 17, was gunned down in a Jacksonville parking lot by Michael Dunn. In the media attention that followed, it was Davis who was put on a trial with the focus on his refusal to lower the volume of his music. And last year, 18-year-old Israel Hernandez was tasered to death by a police officer after spray-painting graffiti on an abandoned McDonalds in Miami Beach. The officer involved, Jorge Mercado, was briefly placed on leave before returning to the force.
Floridas communities of color are speaking out. For years, we have engaged in anti-racist community building, organizing against police brutality, officer misconduct and other justice issues. Yet as further evidenced by the low turnout rate in last weeks primary elections, in which only 17.55 percent of registered Florida voters participated we are not harnessing our full power at the ballot box....

The biggest danger by far to young black males is young black males, but there is no political hay to be made on that.
“... from the murder of an unarmed young person of color,”
One need not read any further to know that this person isn’t interested in reporting about or finding the truth. It has NOT been established by any stretch of the imagination that there was a murder and it’s looking less and less like it every day as more evidence comes out.
When you defend a thug based on the color of his skin, there is a word for that.
Still just making stuff up to fit the agenda.

Low voter turnout..
Time to stoke the fire...
“White guilt” is dead or dying. Attempts to resuscitate it in time for the election are not likely to succeed. Knowledge of the facts in both cases is innoculation against this tactic, although the people who stand to gain from the blame are milking that cow for all it is worth.
If Trayvon had succeeded in killing George Zimmerman the way he was pounding his head into the sidewalk, nobody would know the name Trayvon Martin since it would never have appeared in the newspapers.

aka Bammie's Dumber Than **** Low to No Information Voters.
I think there needs to be a white voter backlash over the events in ferguson.
Martin was proven a thug and Brown appears to be a thug.
I don’t know anything about the other two than what the author provided, but it would be prudent to look into whether they were thugs as well.
The best advice the authoress might give to 17 and 18 year old black thugs, considering their recent experiences, might be that they not assault peace officers and citizens carrying guns.
And this is probably what most of us think, considering the many times persons of color have cried ‘Wolf’.
Ha, I knew what was coming when I saw "state coordinator of Florida Black Youth Vote" after her name. More advanced readers might even claim that "Miami Herald" is enough.
WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE OF THE FERGUSON RIOTS ?
All this inflamatory reporting of confrontations between black youths and authority is ruthlessly designed to keeping the black segment of Obamas political support riled up so that any thought of instituting a richly deserved impeachment proceeding goes nowhere.
Classic example how it’s being done
“There was Treyvon Martin walking down the street when he was followed and killed by George Zimmerman”.... Ebynn Hana (democrat party) Florida state coordinator of the black youth vote project using the Miami Herald who is allowing her stoking the race fires ....For the uninitiated, Martin attacked Zimmerman on his way to his vehicle...
Why aren’t Floridians getting burned up about letting publications like the Miami Herald get away with krap like this ?
