Waldo cops say they've been under ticket quota by Chief Mike Szabo

WALDO — Five Florida police officers told the Waldo City Council that they’ve been under a quota to write traffic tickets, which is a violation of Florida law.

The Gainesville Sun reports Officer Brandon Roberts told council members on Tuesday night they were required by Chief Mike Szabo to write 12 speeding tickets per 12-hour shift, or face punishment. He offered an electronic presentation and printed emails as evidence.

Roberts said they were speaking up because they no longer have faith in their “chain of command.”

Waldo was ranked as the nation’s third worst speed trap by a national publication in 2012. The Sun reports that documents show about half the city’s $1 million budget comes from an item listed as “police revenue.”

>>I will admit that I removed the 382 gear that came stock and replaced it with a 286 gear that the NASCAR driver I worked for got me...I was slow off the line but could top end around 160-170mph at 6500 RPM on the Interstate late at night...But back then, I was young and stupid...*L*

I have a 3.83 so I’m limited to about 145 mph, but it comes off the line like a bullet!

If it is law, you obey it...

Nope. If it's stupid, I'll ignore it. That's best.

BTW, did you turn in the local Jewish agitators as the law requires?

KMA if you don't like my attitude, and get right about not making stupid laws.

Speed trap. The ‘classic’ speed trap was when the speed limit dropped with no warning (no “reduce speed ahead” sign), or the new speed limit sign was too small or hidden from view. And the cops were ready to pounce as soon as you crossed into the reduced zone.

So, what *is* the speed limit in Waldo? No, I’m not defending them, and yes, I do have a fast car.

Yes, I do know what I'm talking about.

In several places in the world it has been duly passed law that Jewish agitators be reported to authorities.

And I will continue to break stupid laws. The law is here for me, not me for the law.

Under the Fugitive Slave Law, it was obligatory to return runaway slaves to their owners.

Would you have obeyed that one, had you encountered a runaway slave?

Waldo has a population of 1000 people. Seems like a lot of cops for such a tiny town.

The revenue it gets from tickets is used to pay cops’ salaries which are used to generate tickets.

If they weren’t running the speed traps it seems unlikely they’d need so many cops.

My wife has a Camry and that’s our grocery getter. Some days, you just want to drive without all the noise and gear shifting.

My brother was talking to me about getting another vehicle so I can “save” the Mustang. I laughed and told him that I’m 52. By the time this car has 100k miles, I’ll be 59 and I’ll probably be ready for a car for grown-ups by that age. So, while I’m relatively young, I’ll drive it like I stole it!

I have no idea since I did not live at that time...
Hypotheticals can be asked and answered in various ways. Unless it is a real situation that you are in, you can’t actually answer to what you would do...You can answer as to what you think you might do, but you really don’t know until it happens...

Yes, 'YOU' do.

You know exactly why I called you out on your 'laws are laws' approach.

You really want to focus attention on anything else but the fact that you think all laws should be followed.

All laws.

I scoff at your stupid laws, and break them with impunity.

Are you saying you might violate your own edict that “You must follow the law”?

His guiding principle is "Laws are laws and must be obeyed."

So yeah, he would.

“Sorry, guys, I know your life as a slave is really horrible, and your master is going to beat you to within an inch of your life once he regains custody of you, but the law is the law. Understand, though, that I’m writing a letter to my congressman tomorrow demanding it be changed”.

If you have a solid foundation of real principle in your life, instead of a wishy-washy whatever approach, yes, you can say what you are required to do by your foundational principles.

Of course, if you don't have any... you could do anything and rationalize it later.

Do you and Duncan believe the correct way to relieve this is to enact legislation to change bad lwas or to just arbitrarily break laws you don’t like???
Are you admitting that you are just like Obama ignoring laws you don’t like???

False equivalence, hero.

I don't accept your argument.

I work hard to change stupid legislation. I spend hours and treasure on that.

I also ignore stupid laws when I need to, because they are stupid, or immoral.

We ignore laws that are morally indefensible, laws that are an affront to human dignity.

The Won ignores laws he doesn’t like, laws that impede his vision of himself as Emperor.
