Misael Santos of the Lev Tahor community says the Jewish group started leaving San Juan La Laguna on Friday after the town’s Elders Council voted to kick them out. …

“The town’s Elders Council voted last week to force the group to leave because they say some members of the sect have mistreated indigenous residents and tourists in the area.”

The Elders Council is not simply antisemitic, but intolerant of people of different faiths. More than anything, this shows ignorance that prevails in the third world and their hatred towards other faiths.

Sounds like a cult: http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2014/08/29/jewish_group_lev_tahor_expelled_from_guatemala_sanctuary.html

Good for the Elders Council.

I’ll lend credence to any Guatemalans as soon as they stop sending illegals to us.

“I’ll lend credence to any Guatemalans as soon as they stop sending illegals to us.”

And of course being the fair-minded person you are, you will “lend credence” to “any” Jews as soon as all Jews in America stop doing anything illegal they might be doing, or stop voting for Democrats, or drop their liberalism, etc., right?

I’m just saying. . .

Since I mention those foibles of such people, it sounds fair. Nobody’s perfect, but nobody ought to be expelled on the basis of who they are either, but instead according to what they do. Is Guatemala saying that they do not have a justice system?

“Nobody’s perfect, but nobody ought to be expelled on the basis of who they are either, but instead according to what they do.”

Being in what looks like a cult, and allegations of child abuse are often enough “do” for most people in most places. May not be fair, may not be due process, but is how it is in many places.

“Is Guatemala saying that they do not have a justice system?”

Looks like the justice system spoke there. The Elders Council may indeed have some authority there. They clearly can cut off their utilities and water in any case:

Summary banishment on the whims of a so-called Elder Council is not justice. That is Code Napoléon at work. If the sect is legally there, they ought to have some rights at least to be charged with a crime and to face justice. If not, then Guatemala is a failed state like their neighbors to the north.

“Summary banishment on the whims of a so-called Elder Council is not justice.”

Well, apparently they think it is. And it probably is justice. It just isn’t due process according to our standards.

“That is Code Napoléon at work. If the sect is legally there, they ought to have some rights at least to be charged with a crime and to face justice. If not, then Guatemala is a failed state like their neighbors to the north.”

Or not. Maybe they just see nuisances as nuisances and actually do something about them.

It must suck to be in a cult.

Being relativistic about judicial standards is abandonment of moral standard, never mind any kind of leadership role.

Since they also think it’s OK to send hordes across Mexico to the US border, I take a dim view of Guatemalan so-called “justice”. Especially when it goes after what are arbitrarily termed “nuisances”.

I’m not being relativistic. I am stating simple points: They aren’t us and don’t have our system.

“Since they also think it’s OK to send hordes across Mexico to the US border, I take a dim view of Guatemalan so-called “justice”.”

And, using your logic, if there are any Jewish criminals, then the Jews of Guatemala have no case. Gee, unless you want to be relativistic in your logic and standards.

That is being relativistic. Especially when one cheers on their “system”.

Expulsion is a bad sign for any society. It’s based on the people, not the actions.

“Expulsion is a bad sign for any society.”

Yeah, just ask the Canaanites about that. Who did that again? Oh, yeah, the Jews. Go on, make another comment about relativism now.
