‘Robbery gone wrong’ at Dairy Queen in Albuquerque’s South Valley
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | August 29, 2014 | Nicole Perez

A man trying to rob a South Valley ice-cream shop was shot and killed by an employee Thursday evening, according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy had just stopped a driver nearby when he heard the shots around 6 p.m. He rushed to the Dairy Queen at 427 Isleta SW, south of Bridge Boulevard, and found a man outside the restaurant with gunshot wounds, according to BCSO spokesman Sgt. Aaron Williamson.

“It does appear at this point it was a robbery gone wrong,” Williamson said.

Williamson said the man went to the Dairy Queen’s window with a gun and demanded money. The cashier gave him money and ducked behind the counter. The man then asked for more money. That’s when a different restaurant employee, “in fear of his own life,” fired at the robber, he said.

The man was struck at least once and died after being transported to University of New Mexico Hospital.

The robber did not fire, Williamson said. His identity was not released by the sheriff’s office.

“It does appear at this point it was a robbery gone wrong,” Williamson said.

It could be argued that it was a robbery gone right. He got his money but when it wasn't enough, he wanted more. Things get awful dicey when a greedy robber gets pissed and comes back for additional cash. At that point employees lives can be in greater danger and the employee shot in fear of his own and other employees safety. The sheriff's office has indicated the employee will face no charges for the shooting.

The employer, on the other hand...

I agree ... robbery gone RIGHT. The robbery was not completed, the intended victims were harmed, and the robber will NEVER do it again ...

We will not know if what the employee did was good or bad until we know the ethnicity of both he and the robber.

Good point, but that is in an area very heavily Hispanic.

Probably hard to spell name-- not many vowels.

Now just how much crack money did this Obamaite expect a Dairy Queen to have? When the race war finally comes we’ll all know which side will have the brains.

More robberies need to “go wrong”, if this is considering going wrong. The scum-bums need put on notice.

The “greedy robber” makes me suspect that he had been smoking crack and though still out of it desperately wanted to smoke more. But the crack house said, “No money, no crack!”

This happens a lot. They immediately go into a “Must get more money NOW!” mode, and nothing else matters.

Someone first noticed it when they left their apartment building, and heard somebody scream at a distance. It took him a while to realize that they were trying to rob him from about a block away, holding a knife and demanding money, but shaking so hard his intended victim could tell he could barely walk, less run.

“Come here and give me money!”

Out here it’s more likely meth and heroin.

At least it had a happy ending.

Was the robber Amish, or an Illegal?

Reminded me of this line from Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis) in the movie "The Fifth Element" after a (pathetically) attempted robbery from an apparent meth head:

"That's a very nice hat"
