This may be the most satisfying article you'll read this week. The story today is from a paper that cannot be linked. If you google southern Utah newspapers and then do a search for Reid, you'll find it. BUT! Here's my vanity-- from personal connections: A few years ago, the president of Southern Utah University, Michael Benson invited alumnus Harry Reid to campus to honor him. This is particularly strange when you consider that Benson is Ezra Taft Benson's grandson. Essentially, it was a ploy by Benson to get some dollars donated to the university by Harry and his family and friends. It backfired. Harry got all the glory, but donated no money. People of the community were incensed. Besides betraying his government, they feel that Harry betrays his religion. He is universally disdained in southern Utah. As a result, donations to the university from many sources dried up. This article carries the announcement that the NEW university president, Scott Wyatt, has removed Harry's name from the "Harry Reid Outdoor Engagement Center" until Harry coughs up some money.
Call it the Rustler Reid Rodeo and Poetry Center.

Ironically, Southern Virginia University is an LDS school.

As much as I don’t approve of Harry Reid, this was a total scam by the university, so I have no sympathy for them. They named this building after him with the sole intention of trying to get money from him, not as some genuine honor. In that case, I can’t say he was wrong to not give them money. That they might have chosen someone not so popular in their area is just stupidity on their part. I have no sympathy for them. (This same tactic has been used by con and bunch artists for over probably over a century)
