Republicans sound alarm as White House prepares go-it-alone immigration measures
fox ^ | Aug 28, 2014

Lawmakers are sounding the alarm over the possibility that President Obama will take sweeping executive actions on immigration in a matter of days – with some Republicans warning of a renewed budget brawl if he takes that step.

“For all intents and purposes, America no longer has an immigration system. Instead, we have unsettling chaos,” Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., wrote in a letter earlier this week to Obama, urging him not to go forward with unilateral action.

In comments that have received widespread attention, Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, told the Des Moines Register that “all bets are off” on a looming budget resolution if Obama pulls the trigger on immigration-related measures.

"If the president wields his pen and commits that unconstitutional act to legalize millions, I think that becomes something that is nearly political nuclear," King said. "I think the public would be mobilized and galvanized and that changes the dynamic of any continuing resolution and how we might deal with that."

Though GOP leaders have shown little interest in reprising the 2013 budget battle that led to a partial government shutdown, King’s comments pointed to a willingness by some on the Tea Party-aligned right to use the budget process – or “continuing resolution” -- as leverage.

Obama's lawyers are carefully crafting a legal rationale they believe will withstand scrutiny and survive any court challenges, administration officials say.

The argument goes something like this: Beyond failing to fix broken immigration laws, Congress hasn't even provided the government with enough resources to fully enforce the laws already on the books. With roughly 11.5 million immigrants in the U.S. illegally -- far more than the government could reasonably deport -- the White House believes it has wide latitude to prioritize which of those individuals should be sent home.

Here's the pubbie's cave countdown clock: 5, 4, 3, 2....

Has Rubio seen the light? I don't/will not trust him. Once a traitor, always a traitor.

Lots of editing to get this to 300 words and not loose the essence. Suggest reading the entire article.

Until they move forward on proposing credible and dire consequences for the democrats if Obama takes this step then I'll consider the republicans are just simply using their alleged concern over Obama's EO amnesty as a campaign issue to whip up the base.

Time for talk is over, pubbies.

Whatever you think of "Pubbies" strategy, here are some realities:

1) even if the GOP has the best possible outcome in Nov, it will be several votes short of 60, let alone 67 needed to convict. That number is just not remotely achievable.

2) it is still possible for Dems to hold the Senate. Not likely, but possible.

3) a radical development such as an impeachment in the House or a pre-election shutdown of government could hand the House to the Dems. Not likely, but possible.

From the Republicans' point of view, IF OBAMA FLAGRANTLY VIOLATES THE LAW they have no power. If the House does shut down the government, do you think Zero will stop spending? Stop implementing Obamacare? Suddenly not do a climate "deal"?

Rush is going over this now, but even he isn't going to the logical extreme: if you have a corrupt lawless thug in power, and the "honor system" is gone, whereby the executive plays by the rules, then it's a new game and it doesn't matter what the GOP does, majority or not.

This is why Romney---for all his faults---was so important: he still believed in playing by the rules and the honor system.

The obvious response to this nonsense is that it was Øbozo himself who created the environment that he says he lacks the funding to address.

If this isn’t a reason to impeach Obastard, then nothing is.

By your argument, the GOP has nothing to lose in cutting off appropriations to El Presidente.

The GOP-E won’t stand by and watch Obama steal the issue they deem the most important in their legislative agenda.

Besides, if they don’t pass Amnesty and let Obama beat them to the punch, they lose all the big campaign donations from the Chamber of Cronyism.

More trash talk before the big surrender. Sad part is they want this amnesty so in reality all this is is just trash talk——again.

As a conservative what does the GOP have to offer me as a voter other than vote for us we are not the democrats.

Damn shame for the country what they have done to us all.

What is the administration trying to distract us from? “They’re gonna, they’re gonna” gets old pretty quick.

No you missed the point: so what if they cut off his expenditures? He has shown he will spend it anyway. Ok now what?

So there is no harm voting to deny him appropriations.

How many hundreds of millions will come in from China once they find out about our open borders?

Do we have room for another few billion people?

We don't have enough jobs for even an extra fifty people, much less millions or billions.

Does that mean that the president has sanctioned anarchy?

Are NO LAWS to be followed?!?!

Can I now drive any speed that I want? Is every street an autobahn?

I guess we don't have to pay taxes anymore since no laws are to be enforced.

Whatever will the police have to do now that there are no laws?
