Obama fails History 101 (And That Is Factual)
Townhall.com ^ | August 28, 2014 | Victor Davis Hanson

resident Obama doesn't know much about history.

In his therapeutic 2009 Cairo speech, Obama outlined all sorts of Islamic intellectual and technological pedigrees, several of which were undeserved. He exaggerated Muslim contributions to printing and medicine, for example, and was flat-out wrong about the catalysts for the European Renaissance and Enlightenment.

He also believes history follows some predetermined course, as if things always get better on their own. Obama often praises those he pronounces to be on the "right side of history." He also chastises others for being on the "wrong side of history" -- as if evil is vanished and the good thrives on autopilot.

When in 2009 millions of Iranians took to the streets to protest the thuggish theocracy, they wanted immediate U.S. support. Instead, Obama belatedly offered them banalities suggesting that in the end, they would end up "on the right side of history." Iranian reformers may indeed end up there, but it will not be because of some righteous inanimate force of history, or the prognostications of Barack Obama.

Obama often parrots Martin Luther King Jr.'s phrase about the arc of the moral universe bending toward justice. But King used that metaphor as an incentive to act, not as reassurance that matters will follow an inevitably positive course.

I remember when this happened, and my absolute horror that Obama did nothing to help Iranian protesters -- not even providing moral support.

It was terrifying and sickening to watch him throw away that golden opportunity to be REaganesque and bring about the potential downfall of the Islamist government in Iran.

The current situation in the Middle East has Obama's fingerprints all over it.

Generally speaking, HISTORY is pretty much the documented record of failed tyrannies.

THAT is something Liberals do not and will not make an effort to study or comprehend.

Properly understood, it completely invalidates Liberalism!

Most of the so-called “Muslim inventions” were not cultural contributions from Islam — but from the decaying vestiges of the Hellenistic world.

After the passing of a handful of generations, the inventions and inventiveness dwindled away to nothing — as the life of the culture was smothered by Islam.

History is treated like all other facts that don’t support the left; it’s either re-written or completely ignored.

Obama reassured us during the Bowe Bergdahl affair that George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt all similarly got American prisoners back when their wars ended -- except that none of them were in office when the Revolutionary War, Civil War or World War II officially ended.

Well, technically, Lincoln was in office when the Civil War ended on April 9, 1865. Lincoln was president when he was shot five days later when he was shot on April 14 and died the next morning.

“President Obama doesn’t know much about history”

don’t know much about geography...
don’t know much about the French he took...”

Odumbo has ‘failed’ at a lot of things, not just his recollection of history.

[When in 2009 millions of Iranians took to the streets to protest the thuggish theocracy, they wanted immediate U.S. support. Instead, Obama belatedly offered them banalities. . .]

Obama met secretly with Iranian envoys when he was still a presidential candidate. A deal was cut in which the Iranians promised to (1) rein in Shia militants in Iraq while Obama withdrew U.S. troops (2) reduce their volume of anti-American rhetoric after Obama’s inauguration. In exchange Obama promised to (1) overlook Iranian human rights abuses (2) allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons.

It was obvious early on that all the talk of how intelligent he is supposed to be was just propaganda. I would give three to one odds that he cannot pass an eighth grade final exam in history or even the English language from fifty or sixty years ago. He doesn’t even know squat about the law regardless of all the talk about being a professor of constitutional law and he cares even less than he knows. He is probably the most ignorant individual ever to occupy the office. I would guess that the only subject in which he may be very well educated would be the Koran, if even that.

Muslim apologist like to give Islam credit for Arab contributions. Fact is Muslims have contributed very little since Mohammed showed up. Unless you counted the number of innocents murdered in his name!!

I don’t agree with your final assertion.
Liberalism is the political expression of the worldview/religion of humanism,

which believes man is the sum of all knowledge,
and inherently, those alive today are smarter and more capable than anyone who ever lived before.

Therefore, though all those collectivist tyrannies failed in the past,
those alive today will “do it right”, because of their superiority.

Islam inherently is “anti-science”, because assuming predictability (ie, scientific repeatability) is a blasphemy -

“chaining Allah”.

All he knows is islam and street agitating.

All that talk about how smart he is got blown away when his handlers hid all his past education results.

The Party knew this and welcomed this.

I have a hunch that his belief that history just “happens” and arcs effortlessly towards a happy outcome is a result of his upbringing as a pampered puppet. He was PLACED in a tony private prep school, PLACED at Occidental, PLACED at Columbia, PLACED at the law firm in Chicago where he met Michelle (and possibly placed into that marriage as well), PLACED into the Senate and essentially PLACED into the presidency by the media. He neither had to fight nor work any harder than reading a script for any of it. There is nothing in his life experience that would cause him to question that Marxist narrative.

April 9, 1865 was the date that Lee surrendered to Grant at Appomattax Court House. That was NOT the end of the Civil War, however. Certainly Lee’s surrender was the critical event leading to the end of the war, but there was fighting that took place after the surrender. Here are some significant events that took place After April 9, 1865:

April 16: Battle of Columbus, GA
April 21: Disbandment of Mosby’s Raiders
April 26: Surrender of Joseph Johnston’s army
May 9: President Johnson declares insurrection “virtually ended”.
May 13: Battle of Palmito Ranch
June 23: Surrender of Stand Watie’s forces
August 20, 1866: President Johnson’s proclamation declaring that the war is over.

To elaborate on a couple of these: Johnston’s army was the last large Confederate force still fighting. The surrender of this force occurred after Lincoln’s assassination. The Battle of Palmito Ranch was the last battle of the war, ironically a battle won by the Confederate forces. Stand Watie was a Cherokee chief commissioned as a general in the Confederate army. He was the commander of the last active Confederate military unit.

Obviously, the date of the effective end of the war can be considered to be any of a number of dates. I suppose the official date would have to be the August 20, 1866 proclamation by President Johnson. Few would doubt, however, that the effective end of the war came much earlier. The June 23 surrender of the last remaining Confederate force, the May 13 battle of Palmito Ranch or even the April 26 surrender of Johnston’s army might all be considered reasonable dates for the effective end of the war. All of these did occur after the assassination of Lincoln, though.
