It seems like Ukraine has spent two months trying to reconquer the east with little to show for it.

And if the pro-Moscow forces gain control of Mauripol, they have sea access. For Moscow, its a dramatic turnaround from what seemed liked certain defeat only a few weeks ago.

No doubt the “men in green” had much to do with Ukrainian reverses in the field.

Both sides have Soviet era tanks.

Poroshenko’s problem is the Ukrainian army is composed of Western Ukrainian conscripts who have little enthusiasm for fighting a colonial war of reoccupation.

And as long as the conflict continues, eastern Ukraine will also be a surrogate proxy war between Russia and NATO.

what a pack of bold faced lies you vile Putin collaborators post here .

The Russians have invaded because their Chechen mercenaries were losing badly. They invaded there neighbor just like they did to Georgia.

What the hell is wrong with Nato!
It kept Stalin and all the other evil Soviets from invading the rest of Europe.

You are a propagandist and collaborator for enemies of West!

Go back and drool over your Putin posters.

What the hell is wrong with Nato!

You mean, other than the fact that it doesn't really exist?

NATO will do nothing. Nothing that will lead Obama to interrupt his golf game.

The West doesn’t want to cut its profitable trade with Russia.
The Ukies are eminently dispensable.

And the division of Ukraine is becoming more or less a fact of life, regardless of whether or not Moscow shows its hand in the Donbass.

All of which is why people are not duly alarmed over the situation.

NATO is a polite fiction. It does not matter what Russia does. It matters what Germany does.

Update your Google search for “Königsberg” at least once a week.

Poroshenko is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. But he knows losing the Donbass would be an even steeper blow than losing Crimea.

The Maidan regime could and did turn to the West. But can it survive the loss of a third of the country? That’s going to be the central question as winter approaches there.
