3 headed to prison in killing of W&J football player

A judge sentenced three men Monday to prison for the beating death of a star Washington & Jefferson College football player.

Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Edward Borkowski, a visiting judge assigned to the case, gave Adam Hankins, 25, of Washington, nine to 25 years, Eric Wells, 25 of Pittsburgh 13 to 31 years, and Troy Simmons, 24, of East Pittsburgh, seven to 20 years.

Borkowski convicted them of third-degree murder in May after the trio pleaded guilty to a general homicide charge for the October 2012 death of student Tim McNerney.

This should have been 2nd degree murder. Life, no parole but for some reason the judge allowed them to plead to 3rd.

Blacks and other liberals will ask why are so many of our prisons so full of black men. I ask the same question. Why are they in prison? These three should have been hanging from a tree by now. These animals aren't good enough for prison.

Where is the moral compass most humans have? I cannot explain it. They can make excuses for their behavior but it’s not changing one thing.

I don’t understand why the judge let them plead to 3rd degree. This was 2nd degree and a slam dunk conviction.

They were trying to *rob* him. Somehow I don't believe that refusing to hand over your cell phone is a "verbal spat."

He should have been armed. Then he could have dumped at least one of them.
