Remember Those "Missing" Lois Lerner Emails? They Apparently Really Do Exist
Townhall.com ^ | August 25, 2014 | Daniel Doherty

We saw this coming, didn’t we? Fox News’ Shannon Bream broke the news this afternoon:

BREAKING: #TomFitton of @JudicialWatch just told us on @FoxNews DOJ atty told JW atty that IRS/Lerner emails DO EXIST in backup somewhere— Shannon Bream (@ShannonBream) August 25, 2014

MORE: #TomFitton @JudicialWatch says DOJ atty told JW atty - fed govt backs up ALL computer records "in case of a catastrophe" #IRS #Lerner— Shannon Bream (@ShannonBream) August 25, 2014

And National Review Online caught the relevant portion of the exchange:

“A Department of Justice attorney told a Judicial Watch attorney on Friday that it turns out the federal government backs up all computer records in case something terrible happens in Washington and there’s a catastrophe, so the government can continue operating,” Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton told Fox News’ Shannon Bream.

“But it would be too hard to go get lois lerner’s emails from that backup system,”Fitton continued, paraphrasing the DOJ official. “So, everything we’ve been hearing about scratched hard drives, about missing emails of Lois Lerner, other IRS officials, other officials in the Obama administration, it’s all been a pack of malarkey. They could get these records, but they don’t want to.”

And why wouldn’t they want to retrieve those records? Easy: such records, if released to the public, could perhaps further tarnish the government agency’s already diminishing reputation. For example, if the emails show conclusively that the current administration and the IRS were working together to explicitly target conservative non-profit organizations, the notion that the IRS scandal was somehow “phony” -- and that the president himself learned about the scandal in “news reports" -- would be totally discredited.

Judicial Watch, meanwhile, fully intends on continuing its crusade to recover these emails by obtaining them and placing their contents in the public record. So we’ll see how far they get.

For what it’s worth, most Americans think there was something fishy going on at IRS after the scandal broke, and would like answers.

Unfortunately, the senator from Kentucky sits at the head of the table in the senate, and as you can see with Harry Reid, to a great extent, he controls the national agenda, and can cause untold suffering, misery, deprivation, economic collapse, and inflict bad policies on the entire nation.

Harry Reid is an evil man, Mitch McConnell is just as intolerable as a weak, feckless, co-dependent, and spineless man. But comparing the two, McConnell is even more harmful, because he not only does not do good, but he stands in the way and blocks others who seek to do good.

He cannot bring himself to raise his sword against the Democrats; but he is inexplicably brave when fighting those who would. As a Republican, he harms America even more than a Democrat.

Yes, it is a choice of the people of Kentucky. But if they choose unwisely, it may be one of the last choices they ever make that matters. With their vote, they now have the means to end our republic, and all it ever stood for.

He’s definitely a criminal...

Via Judicial Watch:

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced the following developments in the IRS’ missing emails investigation. Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton stated:

Department of Justice attorneys for the Internal Revenue Service told Judicial Watch on Friday that Lois Lerner’s emails, indeed all government computer records, are backed up by the federal government in case of a government-wide catastrophe. The Obama administration attorneys said that this back-up system would be too onerous to search. The DOJ attorneys also acknowledged that the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) is investigating this back-up system.

We obviously disagree that disclosing the emails as required would be onerous, and plan to raise this new development with Judge Sullivan.

This is a jaw-dropping revelation. The Obama administration had been lying to the American people about Lois Lerner’s missing emails. There are no “missing” Lois Lerner emails – nor missing emails of any of the other top IRS or other government officials whose emails seem to be disappearing at increasingly alarming rate. All the focus on missing hard drives has been a diversion. The Obama administration has known all along where the email records could be – but dishonestly withheld this information. You can bet we are going to ask the court for immediate assistance in cutting through this massive obstruction of justice.

Here is the second set of sworn declarations by IRS officials in response to Judge Emmet G. Sullivan’s investigation into the missing emails of Lois Lerner and other IRS officials. The declarations were provided after close of business on Friday, August 22.

The first meeting was held this afternoon by Magistrate Judge John M. Facciola, who was appointed by Judge Emmet G. Sullivan to manage and assist in discussions between Judicial Watch and the IRS about how to obtain any missing records which have been the subject of longstanding Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and lawsuit (Judicial Watch v. IRS (No. 1:13-cv-1559)).

Judge Sullivan has encouraged Judicial Watch to submit a request for limited discovery into the missing IRS records after September 10.

The longer they wait the more likely some tapes will get recycled. But they would have monthly and yearly tapes for a very long time. They can easily get these files. I have done it many times due to government requests. Funny how when the tables are turned, they pull they “it is too hard” bs.

The government has a lot of backup systems, at least ONE for each segment of government (i.e. Department of ****) and I suspect for some defense organizations, more than one (that is logical, says Mr. Spock).

As agent Mulder would say, “The truth is out there!”

why don’t you mind your own business and let the voters of KY decide who they want to vote for.

WTF???

Excuse me, but the election of any U.S. Senator is EVERY American's business!!

Re your comment, "Excuse me, but the election of any U.S. Senator is EVERY American's business!!"

Wow, the comment that caught your attention also caught mine -- about how a Freeper ought to mind his own business and stay out of a US senate election unless he lives in the state concerned -- I hope that is a mis-statement.

I was surprised. I am very concerned about RINO tendencies in our Senators from every state. I give a pass to the commenter, however, as passion is good, we are all on the same team, and the times are bothersome...

My post was not to you, so mind your own business.

Unless a senator or rep runs for president, the reelection issue of that senator or rep is the voters of the particular state's business. Not yours, nor mine.

Got it?

You can take that arrogant bs and stuff it where the sun don't shine, Kaslin.

Your comments (and mine) are fair game for any Freeper to respond to, and you know that.

And yes, the election of any U.S. Senator is EVERY American's business, because that Senator will directly affect their lives through their votes in the Senate.

Pay attention everyone, we have a new FR posting rule now in effect. So henceforth, as decreed from Kaslin, all messages on a post must exclusively be either to or from the FReeper who made the post, since deviating from that would be an egregious violation of the Kaslin's MYOB rule!

Crap, I guess by posting this, I have just violated that very rule!

Just about everyone piles on when discussing Harry Reid, Pelosi, Boxer, FeinSWINE, etc...

So by your statement, only those who reside in an affected state are permitted to comment on FR about them?

Their behavior and policies as elected “representatives” affects the entire NATION...
