Obama to go it alone vs. ISIL in Syria; won’t seek congressional approval
Washington Times ^ | Dave Boyer

The White House said Monday that President Obama won’t necessarily seek congressional approval if he decides to order airstrikes in Syria against militants of the Islamic State.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Mr. Obama, who is meeting with Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel Monday afternoon, “has not made a decision to pursue any military action in Syria.”

But he said the president doesn’t see the need to seek congressional approval as he did a year ago, when he was considering an attack on the regime of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad for its use of chemical weapons.

“That was a different situation,” Mr. Earnest said. “These are complicated situations and they always will be.”

Syria’s foreign minister said Monday that his country welcomed air strikes by the U.S. in Syria targeting the Islamic State’s terrorist bases, but warned that Damascus should be warned first. Mr. Earnest didn’t comment on that possibility.

A top White House aide said last week that Mr. Obama would take action against the Islamic State “regardless of borders.”

I'd rather that Obama disintegrate the weapons we gave to the maniacs (and the maniacs) without congressional approval. Who knows what Obama would do if he had a war authorization from congress.

It's Obama's mess that created ISIS from toppling Khadafi and destabilizing Assad. Let him undo as much of the damage as he can.

Obama and his inner circle are continually establishing what they see as precedent for executive supremacy — as you say TinPot dictator.

Congress needs to demand the opportunity to debate the war. This is a war with a declared state, not some shadowy “terrorist” group. They’re organized along state lines and need to be treated that way.

Declare war formally and fight them like Sherman did - humiliate them, turn the populace against them, destroy their economic and financial centers (which aren’t necessarily in the same location and may simply be individuals) and use the Geneva Convention to do it. Hang as spies/saboteurs combatants out of uniform after harvesting any needed information.

These executive office shadow wars are an abdication of Constitutional duty.

Unfortunately, it would be bipartisan, and make his fondest, farthest left friends, unhappy

And this is likely why he is not going to take that step. Especially now, just before mid terms.

“The House should pass a resolution telling Obama he has to get a formal declaration of war or all the Constitutionalists should shut the hell up.”

Exactly! war should be an on/off switch.

Can Congress undo the bill, and second, why isn’t the Constitution the last word? If there is a link that explains it, it might be easier for you.

Also, I love the way France dissolved their government. How can we get that! LOL

"That was a different situation," the Obama leg-humping lapdog yipped. "These are complicated situations and they always will be."

Translation: "It's tech-ni-cal, probably over a little peon reporter's head, and definitely WAY OVER mine."

I'm so sick of the Jayvee team running this country into the ground.

I think it would have made more sense to develop the technology to install in all our military vehicles and equipment, that would stop it by pressing a button, when in the wrong hands. Instead they develop it for our cars, although in hot pursuit it will help. I’d rather stop our enemies from stealing our military equipped vehicles, humvees, and heavy fighting machines....even after a year or two if a once ally decides to use them against us.
