Ralph Weems IV, who was injured early Saturday, was in fair condition Sunday at North Mississippi Medical Center, hospital spokeswoman Genie Causey said without elaborating.
A relative, Bradley Barnes of Madison, told The Associated Press by telephone on Sunday that his brother-in-law was in a medically induced coma following brain surgery. "They're going to try and wake him up tomorrow and see what damage was done," Barnes said, describing Weems as a 32-year-old former Marine who had served in Iraq.
David Knighten of West Point told AP earlier by phone that he and Weems had gone to a Waffle House early Saturday. He said a man waved him over outside the restaurant and told him politely that people were upset by the killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and it wasn't a safe place for whites. When he went in, he said, Weems was inside and was arguing with other men.

Right or wrong, ignoring reality is just stupid.
I am afraid there are going to be many more attacks like this across the country. Everyone please be aware of your surroundings.
Not a good thing to, to go into a Black area and disagree with the locals on anything. Even if the guy is Black.
He was being beaten by a mob, and had a .45 caliber handgun. There was one way to very quickly stop the beating, why didn’t he do it?

If a BLACK MAN when to a restaurant full of whites, and he was beaten to and inch of his life, there’s be FBI investigation, hate crime, Jesse and Al marching, etc etc.
But this white guy? Screw him. He had it coming?

I read the story but I guessed I missed the part where he picked a fight. I read where he was arguing with some people in the waffle house, but there wasn't any info that he started the argument. Was there something I missed or did you find more information somewhere.
It's reassuring that the police do not consider it a hate crime.
Still waiting for Eric Holder to go to Salt Lake City to see if any civil rights were violated when a black cop shot an unarmed white man dead.

He was made aware of the situation. He chose to ignore the warning, with predictable results.

With that fact, it is indisputable, that this attack was a Hate Crime.

A white goes into a public restaurant full of blacks and because of his race is beaten into a coma and may die.
Reverse the races and that Huddle Hut wold be on the cover of NY TIMES, USA TODAY, and lead story on ABC/CBS/NBC/CNN non-stop for days.
The president of the company would apologize. There’d be marches. Calls for justice.
Instead, this is a local news only event.
Nobody cares.
The fact that whites are now saying, “Well he had it coming if he went into a place full of blacks” shows we now have reverse Jim Crow operating in our country.

More than 20 people followed him? The ones that participated in the beating should be charged with attempted murder.
A lot of those places have video cameras set up. Everyone of them should be arrested. They followed and assaulted the man.
I don’t think white people have civil rights.
And nobody stood up and said, “Stop this!”
If a group of whites started harassing and beating the lone black in a restaurant, people would come to the guy’s rescue. Unless it’s the Nazi prison biker gang ball, nobody is going to stand by and watch that in our country.

Where a mob negates my civil rights, my 2nd Amendment Rights kick-in in a very violent way.
The story reads that the one friend was warned but isn’t clear if the other friend was warned. They vacated the first restaurant and went to another restaurant that appeared deserted.
The two were stalked by a lynch mob:

Yeah, I the mob leaves. After Ferguson saw that FReeper Tiger Claws posted the same thing. It changes the complexion entirely. You can count on the police not getting there until the mob leaves the area. After Ferguson, I doubt them wanting any contact with Blacks. So essentially, you are on your own.
