There are levels between billy clubs and tanks. Maybe just have SWAT being used when there are actually dangerous people, and not when busting someone selling a few joints from his parents’ basement. And just have normal cops with their .45s for day to day police work. But the camo bs and flak jackets and the APCs should be packed up and shipped for storage at a National Guard base, and not kept and used by the Smithville Bastrop, TX Sheriff’s department.
There was a guy 2 months ago with a rifle here in Austin in a standoff with police. APD brought out an APC, which was overkill for one jackass with a rifle.
Riot control and SWAT teams should fall under the Sheriff’s Dept. PERIOD!
Local cops should call the Sheriff if they need a SWAT team or have a riot starting. Let’s have an elected official, (which all sheriffs are) be in charge of the heavy weapons division for law enforcement work.
Cities have no need to bust doors to make a drug arrest or serve a bench warrant. Search warrants should be given to the homeowner when the cop knocks on the door.
Too many times the stupid stormtroopers bust down doors to serve the drug warrants. This leads to increased risk of death from everybody involved.
But the assholes love to play with their toys. They love the thrill of kicking down doors and hold a gun to the back of a guy’s neck, daring him to move.
So, yeah. If Obama wants to take away those lethal toys from those sadistic fucks, it’ll be the one good thing he does.
Lock up those things at a military base. Let the military use it to kill terrorists overseas or melt them down. Turn it into a park bench or something. But keep it out of Barny Feif’s hands.
