Just send the ‘nonessential’ Federal Employees home for the day and leave them there. If they aren’t essential, why were they employed?

Why can’t they mail the bagpipes and put the paperwork inside the box in case it’s ever opened and inspected? Of course, video the packing and keep all reciepts for the postage. You might never see them again but you’d save that $475 to help purchase a new instrument.

I will be blunt. The portion of CBP I am in wasted an enormous amount of money on this kind of garbage. Numerous different dress uniforms that will never be worn. Boots, three different dress hats, etc. That was for every agent. If they had not bought those uniforms and instead had spent those funds on body armor our agents could be decked out with the best there is. Instead our issue body armor sucks.

A couple years ago I saw a document where the travel and training funding for the agency honor guard and drum and pipe band were projected for the year. My first response was "We have a drum and pipe band?" The total of the two were $375k for what is essentially a complete waste of money.

One might ask how we got into that mess. The answer is simple. CBP promotes the dumbest people they can find in the whole agency to be in charge. If they aren't bad enough they bring in people from the outside that are even worse.
