Expert: Let’s not exaggerate ISIS threat to U.S.
Boston Herald ^ | August 22, 2014 | O'Ryan Johnson

Posted on 08/22/2014 10:54:42 AM PDT by BlopAndStop

“They are beyond just a terrorist group,” Hagel said. “They marry ideology, a sophistication of ... military prowess. They are tremendously well-funded. This is beyond anything we’ve seen.”

But Jim Walsh with the MIT Security Studies Program said ISIS has also suffered a series of setbacks at the hands of Kurdish and U.S. forces and said the Islamic militants are more concerned with the immediate threats in their region than attacking the U.S.

“The theory is that they have a safe haven and if you have a safe haven you can carry out an attack. That’s true. Unfortunately there’s no lack of safe havens. I think ISIS has its hands full. It has local ambitions, setting up a caliphate in the region,” he said. “Right now they’re fighting the Syrians, the Kurds, the U.S., the Iraqis and the Iranians. They’re pretty focused on that. Maybe, if they win, years from now, they’ll go after the U.S.”

Walsh said the U.S. should not underestimate the group, however, which has gained land, weapons and money during its massive expansion through Iraq.

“It’s prudent to say they have become more capable as they took more territory, they were able to capture American weapons and weapons that other armies, that the Iraqi army left behind,” he said. “They are a threat. This is a big deal.”

The same thing was said of Al Qaeda back in 1997 by the Clinton regime.

4 years later they annihilated 3,000 of our countrymen in less than 90 minutes.

ISIS may prove even more insidious and brazen.

And we have a wide-open border to our South.

The math is not hard. It’s not ‘if’ ISIS will attack us here at home, but WHEN.

Jim Walsh, a name to remember for the future

I assume since he is smarter about the threat than our SecDef or generals, he at least is a combat vet who has faced the adversary in battle in Iraq or Afghanistan or both?

Can someone list any ‘experts’ that foresaw the possibility of a terrorist attack on American of the size and scope of September 11th?

And we have a wide-open border to our South.

Yup, and that is what makes a risk of a terrorist attack in this country so real.

Our politicians are playing such a dangerous game with our borders, all in the name of recruiting "new" Americans in hopes of continuing power in DC, that they fail to see how it puts us in a terrible risk for a terrorist attack. Or it could be they know the risks but are just that desperate to hold on to power, they would risk a terror attack on America. Either way, so many politicians need to be tried for treason for already allowing the illegal invasion.

Our politicians probably feel they and their families are somewhat safe in their gated communities away from high population areas. They feel if an attack DOES come, they can exploit it and gain even more power by acting concerned and talking about how they are appalled and going to go to “the ends of the earth” and find the perpetrators...

ALL rhetoric...NO action

Good point. Look at all the government goodies, all in the name of security, we got after 9/11. Also, communists love a “crisis”. Congress may not care either way, since they have their bases covered.

Oh cynical me so how is this? This administration has sent out the two stooges, Hagel and Dempsey to set us up for a False Flag catastrophe. The other stooge, John Kerry must be on hold for now. The ruling elite will use obozo to take complete control before 2016 and like any false flag event, they need a plausible avenue and someone to blame. The ruling elite know the Tea Party is gaining sway in DC and is of primary concern. The ruling elite will not relinquish or risk losing the strides they've made under obozo toward the US transformation to fascism until it is completed.

Uhhh....maybe we should make sure they don't win now instead of having to worry about them years from now.

You left out the fact that the Executive and some in his movement WANT a terror attack.

The fact so many Americans refuse to see Obama as the Trojan Horse he is, dooms us to what Obama is causing to happen.

This is beyond treason. This was a coup we suffered. And we allowed ourselves to be overthrown because this people only wanted to hear smooth and easy things, demanding leaders prophesy illusions and lies.

I don’t think what is coming is a classic ‘false flag’ set-up.

We’re being invaded for the purpose of systematic destruction and subjugation.

The regime will have no guarantees for it’s security or survival with what it is letting into the country - but if you understand that Obama has as his goal, our complete destruction - things taking place make a bit more sense.

Did anyone else see Hannity’s interview of Cheney two nights ago? He said they’ll hit us again, but worse. And in his closing words, he said this time it’d be in the hundreds of thousands.

His tone struck me as if he knew something
