Last night in Alaska, the choice of both establishment Republican Karl Rove and the free-market Club for Growth won over a tea-party-backed candidate — but not by much. With that result comes some lessons for the future about Democratic interference in GOP primaries. The race against Democratic senator Mark Begich this fall will be close and very hard fought — and could determine overall control of the Senate.
Miller’s grassroots support gave him a late surge against Sullivan. But one of the biggest drags on the frontrunner was a series of brutal TV ad attacks against him by Put Alaska First, a Democratic super PAC allied with Senator Begich. ...Then late in the campaign, Put Alaska First ran ads highlighting Miller’s pro-life stands along with his support for impeaching Obama.
Senator Harry Reid’s allies did much the same thing in Nevada in 2012, resulting in the primary victory of Sharron Angle, who then went on to lose to Reid in the general election.

The tea party needs to vet their candidates much better and Republican primary voters need to keep their eye on the ball and pay attention to reality.
Not all Alaska republicans are indeed republicans..
example: Lisa Murkowsky.. and probably her father.. and minions..
The Dem ads were not in support of Joe Miller but against him.
The Dems advertised against Dan Sullivan. They openly wanted Joe Miller to win the primary, believing him to be the weakest Republican candidate.
The want to dirty him. Same as having the KKK offer their support. They're not trying to help you.
The dems want a liberal in the senate, and especially if they think their guy might lose. So, they'd rather have Hillary run against Romney that against Cruz.
Joe Miller was a good candidate and the GOPe is ultimately more aligned with the Democrats on policy positions than the Tea Party outsiders.....
McConnell voted for cloture earlier this year with the Dems so the debate could end and the vote to increase our national debt could go ahead.
Dems are very good at hedging.
Even when they lose they seem to win.
Not only do they have a majority in the senate, but nearly all of them vote in lockstep with the leadership. There’s no more conservative Dems in the senate.
While on the GOP side one has to look hard to find a true conservative. It’s pretty disgusting and disheartening.
The media controls the narrative and it’s clear that far leftists are left without labels while conservatives are called extremists.
It’s tough to fight public perception that is so heavily shaped by the MSM.
The msm is the key. That list of 1000 journalists colluding on the google group should be used to seek out these people and ruin their careers.
Just the opposite, at least in this election. In Alaska, oil revenue is the major policy issue.
One of the major issues in this election was whether or not the voters would vote to repeal Sarah Palin's windfall profits tax(ACES). This was Proposition 1 in the election.
On one side there were the democrats, tea party, Joe Miller, and Sarah Palin in opposition to overturning the tax. On the other side was the GOPe supporting the end of Palin's tax.
The vote was very tight but the voters did overturn the tax.
After Parnell was elected governor in his own right, He, Dan Sullivan, and the GOPe set out to undo what Palin did as governor. Repeal Palin's oil tax and replace Palin's pipeline(AGIA) with a pipeline similar to Frank Murkowski's pipeline(Stranded Gas Act). They have now done both.
One of the reasons the GOPe wants Sullivan in DC as a senator is that he previously worked in the State Dept and has contacts there. Alaska will need State Dept approval to export the natural gas to Asia and they think Sullivan can help get that approval.
So does that mean after all her work, "The dirty rotten ****tards club" ( I think that is what they called themselves and even had hats that said it) has been essentially reconstituted? She fought against corruption, an innate tendency of humans to be corrupt, engage in cronyism, etc. For what? Has all she done been undone? From my knowledge of Accounting and her description of it Aces wasn't that bad. I guess I don't get Alaskan Politics...
You made a point there.
But the problem of the GOPe is its collusion with business on everything from avoiding taxes (Murkowski-energy) to bailouts (financial services-Bush 43-TARP, pharmaceuticals-Bush 43-Medicare Part D, Health Insurance-Hospitals-Romneycare-amended Obamacare supported by GOPe) and yes, amnesty for illegals among other things.
Energy policy for Alaska and Canada has to look in the direction of Asia because Obama isn’t interested in that energy reaching the lower 48.
