7 Harmful Side Effects Pot Legalization Caused Colorado

SNIP

As I reported a few weeks ago, some professors published a peer-reviewed article on the negative social costs to outright legalization. I noted that although overall traffic fatalities in Colorado have gone down since 2007, they went up by 100 percent for operators testing positive for marijuana—from 39 in 2007 to 78 in 2012. (Colorado legalized marijuana for medical usage in 2009, before legalizing marijuana for other uses in 2012.) Furthermore, in 2007, those pot-positive drivers represented only 7 percent of total fatalities in Colorado, but in 2012 they represented 16 percent of total Colorado fatalities.

This new report paints an even bleaker picture of what is happening in Colorado since it legalized the possession, sale, and consumption of marijuana.

SNIP

1. The majority of DUI drug arrests involve marijuana and 25 to 40 percent were marijuana alone.

2. In 2012, 10.47 percent of Colorado youth ages 12 to 17 were considered current marijuana users compared to 7.55 percent nationally. Colorado ranked fourth in the nation, and was 39 percent higher than the national average.

3. Drug-related student suspensions/expulsions increased 32 percent from school years 2008-09 through 2012-13, the vast majority were for marijuana violations.

4. In 2012, 26.81 percent of college age students were considered current marijuana users compared to 18.89 percent nationally, which ranks Colorado third in the nation and 42 percent above the national average.

5. In 2013, 48.4 percent of Denver adult arrestees tested positive for marijuana, which is a 16 percent increase from 2008.

6. From 2011 through 2013 there was a 57 percent increase in marijuana-related emergency room visits.

7. Hospitalizations related to marijuana has increased 82 percent since 2008.

To misquote (proposed meaning not the actual text which is word for word)
pedophile, homo, beat poet, and Pot aficionado Allen Ginsberg

Couldn’t say it better.

How’s the WOD working for you? Which is worse?

Difficult question. I used to have a much more libertarian attitude about the WOD, mainly reading the horror stories about the police state. But now I understand the police state is primarily a product of the spineless politicians. Also I have seen the effects first hand and although not the end of the world, it is not pretty.

1. The majority of DUI drug arrests involve marijuana and 25 to 40 percent were marijuana alone.

The report states this is for years 2007-2012.

Marijuana was not legal in Colorado until Dec 2012.

Did any of these DUI tests test for prescription drugs?

2. In 2012, 10.47 percent of Colorado youth ages 12 to 17 were considered current marijuana users compared to 7.55 percent nationally. Colorado ranked fourth in the nation, and was 39 percent higher than the national average.

Marijuana was not legal in Colorado until Dec 2012.

3. Drug-related student suspensions/expulsions increased 32 percent from school years 2008-09 through 2012-13, the vast majority were for marijuana violations.

Marijuana was not legal in Colorado until Dec 2012.

4. In 2012, 26.81 percent of college age students were considered current marijuana users compared to 18.89 percent nationally, which ranks Colorado third in the nation and 42 percent above the national average.

Marijuana was not legal in Colorado until Dec 2012.

5. In 2013, 48.4 percent of Denver adult arrestees tested positive for marijuana, which is a 16 percent increase from 2008.

What were they arrested for? How many misdemeanors vs. felonies? How many were convicted?

6. From 2011 through 2013 there was a 57 percent increase in marijuana-related emergency room visits.

Marijuana was not legal in Colorado until Dec 2012.

What are the stats from the individual years of 2011, 2012 & 2013?

7. Hospitalizations related to marijuana has increased 82 percent since 2008.

Marijuana was not legal in Colorado until Dec 2012.

What are the stats from the individual years of 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013?

Figures don’t lie but liars figure. What does “related” mean? Someone who smoked weed a week ago is still going to test positive. So anything that happens to him is “marijuana-related”.

No. I was told it was harmless.

Legalization is definitely worse ... for those who depend upon the police state and its related industries.

Everybody’s tried not using. Apparently they like using better.

As Colorado Loosened Its Marijuana Laws, Underage Consumption And Traffic Fatalities Fell

Aug 11, 2014

Two consequences that pot prohibitionists attribute to marijuana legalization— more underage consumption and more traffic fatalities—so far do not seem to be materializing in Colorado, which has allowed medical use since 2001 and recreational use since the end of 2012.

Survey data released last week by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) indicate that marijuana use among high school students continues to decline, despite warnings that legalization would make pot more appealing to teenagers.

When marijuana was illegal, it wasn't taxed and regulated by the government. How long will it be before Phillip Morris etc own all production, the taxes reach absurd levels, and the gov controls the strength while demanding additives "for your own good".

Explain to me how submitting to regulation and taxation is freedom.

Well, now that you mention it, any list of stats that starts of with between 25 to 40 %, or 12 y old to 17 year old and limits itself to %% increase over an unknown quantity -— makes me suspicious of an agenda.

But I don’t care. I’ll tell you my agenda in posting this reply ...

I want to be able to legally purchase or have prescribed and then legally purchase MMJ in any state that I reside in so that I may legally imbibe in the privacy of my own home, behind locked doors, not involving any minors while watching re-runs of family guy.

Does your SHTF plan involve copious amounts of MMJ? Maybe it should cause there’s going to be a lot of people stressing when the shtf.

I suggest you buy stocks in Philip Morris then and instead of complaining and losing out you’ll be celebrating and getting rich.
