Yes. Studies show that the nine or so states that allow this haven’t had a problem. People in college are adults. Why not treat them like they are?

students are legal adults

their parents can’t get their grades or access to information about their alcoholism

they are old enough to die for thier country

why shouldn’t they be able to protect themselves on campus

The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Anywhere there is a ban on guns is welcoming the criminals with “you will have a free hand.”

It has always bugged me that a person who can be compelled (draft registration is still in effect I think) to give his life for his country cannot carry protection or even buy a beer.

FREEP the poll at the link. It’s now 36% yes and 64% no.

In a perfect world, yes. But in practice I think it would be a bad idea. Alcohol and guns don't mix.

And before you accuse me of being anti-gun... my son is going back to campus this Saturday, and I'm bringing him to the range this afternoon to teach him to shoot a handgun.

And regular adults don’t have alcohol in their homes?

During my entire 4 years in college I had a shotgun.

At both schools the ag dept planted fields for dove hunting

Since most state laws already set the legal age for carry at 21, the concept of “legal adult” has already been superseded so let’s set the 18-21 group aside for the discussion. Instead, let’s focus on those already legal that would include students, especially the non-traditional students returning to school for multiple reasons, staff, and faculty. I’d especially turn the discussion to the non-traditional students as the staff and faculty may have already been “infected” by the rarified liberal air around many college campuses. What is so special about a campus that it precludes the potential for the need of a firearm when returning to your car after evening classes anymore than returning to your car after evening shopping?

I don't consider the alcoholic atmosphere of most college campuses and dormitories to be even remotely comparable to most family homes in which alcohol is consumed in moderate quantities.

That's one argument that I might actually consider. But in general, I still think the alcohol/drug infested culture of most college campuses would make me very reluctant to favor allowing concealed carry on college campuses. The exception I might make is Wyoming Catholic College, where guns and responsibility are part of the campus culture.

On the other hand, I probably would favor laws that allow colleges and universities to make and enforce their own policies regarding guns on campus, rather than making blanket laws for all colleges and universities.

What can I say? I'm not a perfect father by any measure. I'm still learning to shoot, too. I recently bought a family membership at a range. I'll be bringing my other kids soon. My wife will be a challenge.

That is the wrong question. The correct question should be: When does a College get to take away the rights of it’s students?

Hey, I’m with ya! I kept guns, yes guns plural, in my dorm room when I was in college. Carried my shotgun numerous times into and out of the dorm to go duck or goose hunting. No one batted an eye!
