".......Lehmberg, who plead guilty and accepted a 45-day jail sentence, has declined to comment about the case. But the Travis County Democrats issued a statement calling Perry’s tactics “character assassination and deflection.”

“We didn’t expect Gov. Perry to take responsibility for his actions, but smearing Rosemary Lehmberg and complaining the indictment was political does not answer the charges,” said Joe Deshotel, a spokesman for the county party.

Video "Gov. Rick Perry's (R) political action committee released a web video Tuesday featuring unflattering police footage of the drunk driving arrest and detention of a Texas district attorney.

The Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg, shown in the police video, is at the center of two felony counts against Perry handed down by a grand jury last week.

Perry, a potential 2016 presidential candidate, is defending himself against charges that he abused his powers by attempting to force Lehmberg to resign after her arrest. The governor had threatened to veto funding for a public integrity unit in her office.

The video splices clips of Perry defending his veto with unflattering images of Lehmberg failing a sobriety test, kicking at a door in a police station and having her arms and shoulders physically restrained while in custody."....

" If this indictment isn’t dismissed on the Defendant’s first motion, then we need to reconvene that grand jury to review a multi-count indictment on a slew of charges against Barack Obama, Eric Holder, Lois Lerner, and many others in the federal government who have threatened, coerced, and harassed countless Texans, banks, businesses, and citizens with actions and consequences—including sham indictments, criminal prosecutions, actual and threatened imprisonment–far more pernicious and insidious than an executive veto. Allowing anyone to abuse the criminal justice system and the extraordinary power of a prosecutor even to persuade a grand jury to obtain an indictment like this sets a frightening and chilling precedent." - The Indictment of Rick Perry is a Sham and a Shame ["hogwash"]

I hope Perry uses this Soros based smear tactic to embarras the left AND gains political clout for his (possible) ‘16 campaign.

Bush Family Operative and/or Leftist snarkybob showing up to pretend that this must be serious since a "real special prosecutor" appointed by a Republican judge got a "real Grand Jury" to issue the indictment in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...

Attack, or simply telling the truth.

There is a difference.

Explaining why you took the actions you did, is merely a production of information.

The media can’t keep it’s opinions out of news provision.

I have a feeling that he just might do something that will make Soros wished he had never gotten involved in the Plight of the 3 Times the Limit Drunk DA.

Uh, yes, it certainly does answer the charges.

Oh, and also, notice how to a Democrat, telling the truth about a Democrat is considered to be the same as "smearing" that Democrat.

Travis County, specifically Austin, is the embarrassment of Texas. Yes, even worst than Dallas’ John “you’re white, go to hell!” Wiley Price.

Lol. There won't be a '16 campaign now. Whether or not the charges have merit does nothing. We all know these are bogus charges. Perry's political career is over, just like DeLay. Vindication won't matter.

Yeah? More credible charges than this were charged against BJ in 1992 regarding Jennifer Flowers and Juanita Brodderick.

Didn’t faze BJ. He got elected.

But yes, I will admit. Dems are immune to this crap. Only Repubs have to live under the double standard.

As you well know, I’m no buddy of Rick Perry, but I am 100 PERCENT BEHIND HIM on this. It is not even a close call, and it may REALLY wind up benefiting us all, if we can get that stupid office SHUT DOWN, once and for all.

In other words, the strategy will work and the Travis County fascists are scared.

I can see a free game to download to your smartphone: Travis County DA Driving Challenge.

How many bottles of vodka can you chug while driving before getting busted? As part of the game you score points for kicking doors and making threats.

Given the history of political shenigans from Travis Country, TX Democrats (we do remember the Rathergate debacle started with this very crowd almost exactly a decade ago!), does this whole thing surprise me? Watch for a change of venue for the trial to anywhere else in Texas and the case gets dismissed in no time flat.

So far as a Republican is concerned, there is no meaningful difference between a Travis County, TX , jury and a D.C. jury.

You can’t shut down Travis County’s PIU office. Why? Because its not a state agency, and any county in Texas can have one. They are created to deal with a high number of cases concerning public fraud and corruption. Austin has one because its at the center of government where a lot of those crimes take place. Harris county has one, so does Dallas county and Cameron county.

It’s like having a kidnapping division in a jurisdiction where many of those take place.
