This question is being posed after a large amount of weapons were found in domestic dispute case in Saddle Brook. A man was stabbed by his wife, and she was charged. The police found the husband’s gun collection and confiscated it in accordance with protocol. He may be charged for the massive amount of gunpowder in his possession.

The pics show over 100 pounds of smokeless and about 30 pounds of Goex black powder.

He appears to enjoy shooting and reloading, not bomb making.

Yes! There should be and in practice is a perfectly good limit.

People should own no more ammo than they can afford, or get credit to purchase.

Live within your means.

YES! No one should have more bullets than the number of elementary particles in the Universe. If you find someone with more, then throw the book at him, for all I care.

“How about a limit on the amount of food you can own?”

Surprise! Surprise!

That idea has already been thrown out there to get people to “talking” about it.

Hoarders (Preppers) are driving up food prices and denying food to other people.

I seriously doubt it was black gunpowder.

I take it you didn't look at the pictures in the article I linked.

Well, it WOULD be polite to allow others to buy some, too...

No American needs more ammunition than they can pay for!

That is exactly how much I have!

The bomb guy in that pic is putting a can or IMR smokeless in with the black powder. I guess color of the can is more important than the contents.....

As they say “RIF”

In NJ, the police now arrest citizens & seize their property for committing “pre-crimes”.

I read the article that this was linked to.

The guy had 30 lbs of smokeless powder for reloading. That and his guns were locked in 2 gun safes.

The moron Chief of police said it ‘appeared’ to be black powder.

Since it was in the original cans from the manufacture Goex, probably a safe guess.

Did you count the cans, or just read the labels in the front?

The guns in the garbage can were put there by the police.

Wait, no federal ammunition subsidies or tax credits?

Dang it.

I’m not claiming every red can is black powder. The cop is holding Dupont IMR 3031.

There should definitely be a limit on the amount of ammo owned by the federal government, and on agencies that can have it. We need limits now.

Only if there is a limit on the number of words a “journalist” can type.

Thank you for that. I searched some more and found a more detailed description.

http://www.northjersey.com/news/kelly-when-domestic-violence-laws-clash-with-gun-rights-1.1068734

Richard Lintner had almost 200 guns, most of them locked in steel vaults, police said. And he refused their request to enter the house and examine the weapons, for which the police say he had proper owner’s permits

Police say Lintner told them he had two gun vaults. He actually had five — each standing about 3 feet wide and 6 feet tall and weighing 1,000 pounds, police said. Each vault was locked, and Lintner was the only one who knew the combinations.

- - - -

In an early report, police estimated that Lintner had more than 10,000 rounds of different calibers. Later, police revised the number to more than 100,000 rounds, including .50-caliber bullets, which are used by the military for large targets and some hunters for big game.

- - - -

Police said they also found more than 300 pounds of gunpowder. Private citizens can legally own only 30 pounds.

How much you can own? No. Where and how its stored? Yes.

At a certain point its a zoning issue. Storing two tons of black powder in an apartment building is in the same category as zoning pig lots to outside the city limits.

That said, most “massive arsenals of ammunition” are less than 10,000 rounds, which isn’t that dangerous. Stored outside of a safe (which it shouldn’t be in) smokeless powder isn’t really an explosive hazard, but rather a fire hazard, same as gasoline.
