President Obama opened the door Monday to reevaluating a massive Defense Department program that sends military equipment to local police forces, in the wake of concerns about the St. Louis Police Department's response to riots and protests in Ferguson, Mo.

"There is a big difference between our military and our local law enforcement, and we don't want those lines blurred," Obama said.

The president spoke at the White House briefing room late Monday, during a pause in the capital from his vacation in Martha's Vineyard. As he has before, Obama walked a fine line in addressing the sustained violence and unrest in the St. Louis suburb over the killing of an unarmed black man by a police officer.

The police can't do anything right. They were supposed to use all that military gear against those evil right wingers and TEA Partiers, not Obama's core constituency.

we have some people here on FR who do not like the militarization of the police. It’s necessary.

Remember, liberals say they will do things, but after time, nothing gets done, but they get credit because they said it.

Exactly. Obamao had no problem with it in Boston (racist town full of pastey white Irish), but it’s an issue in Ferguson to quell an active RIOT.

I think a lot of people mistake having military equipment with "being militarized."

Dressing like a soldier doesn't make you a soldier.

If this black cloud has a silver lining, so be it.

Demilitarize the police even if it's for the "wrong" reasons.

How about the BLM and other government agencies? Remember the Bundy Ranch standoff.

It sure as shit is not necessary for what used to be run-of-the-mill serving of warrants and such. Now it's almost SOP to have a SWAT team do this stuff.

Obamaumao has no problem with a NATIONAL police force having all the capabilities of the US military. That he has no problem about because.... he would command it. Just cant have local/state police with mil surplus.

This is his plans for a new federal state police— which was know in nazi germany as the geheim staats polizei.... the GESTAPO.

Lovely liberal socialist totatlitarian argument. The state police and county and city in our states KNOW who the bad actors are.

So in Ferguson the dem guv brings in state police (headed by a local black trooper) AND allows the coordination with Malik Shabazz of the Black Panthers (no the new black panthers) on site at the CP.

Does anyone here not understand what is happening under holder et al -— a national polizei with absolute illegal power?

It is only “necessary” if you want to conduct a war on the people. Such as a “War on Drugs”.

That is exactly who needs to be demilitarized. The federal agencies that are not law enforcement. Why do we need bookkeepers and lawyers carrying automatic weapons?

This is testing of the system for a national police state.. under the guise of “legalities” of race policy.

Imagine a country run by such socialists. Note the racial part of the design. Think in this instance— black supremacists socialists.

Even as this all distracts from the illegal aliens being allowed to be placed in the US contravening federal law. This is the “watch the birdie” event for August.

I would disagree with the belief that it is necessary.

SWAT teams are necessary in cases of desperate or hardened criminals who are doing harm or threatening lives, but their use against the citizens for even minor offences is not necessary.

“we have some people here on FR who do not like the militarization of the police. It’s necessary.”

Sorry to burst your bubble BunnySlippers, but more whites (numerically) distrust the police than blacks.

I recently had a conversation with fireman at our local block party. I said to the oldest: “you guys must be the only public servants that don’t carry guns”.

He responded; “They tried to get us to, but we said no...” “We get along well with the people and we want to keep it that way”.

When I was growing up in the fifties and sixties, it was the same with police. Now it’s changed...
