No Arrest for Gov. Perry but Mug Shot to Be Taken
ABC News ^ | August 18, 2014 | By PAUL J. WEBER and WILL WEISSERT, AP

A Texas judge opted Monday not to issue an arrest warrant against Gov. Rick Perry, but the Republican still faces the unflattering prospect of being booked, fingerprinted and having his mug shot taken — and has assembled a team of high-powered attorneys to fight the two felony counts of abuse of power against him.

"This is nothing more than banana republic politics," Tony Buzbee a Houston-based defense attorney who will head a cadre of four lawyers from Texas and Washington defending Perry, said at a news conference.

A grand jury in Austin, a liberal bastion in otherwise largely conservative Texas, indicted Perry for carrying out a threat to veto $7.5 million in funding for the state's public integrity unit after Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg, a Democrat, refused to resign following a drunken driving arrest. The ethics unit is housed under Lehmberg's office.

No one disputes that Perry has the power to veto measures approved by the Legislature, but his threat to do so before actually carrying it out prompted a complaint from a left-leaning watchdog group.

This is ridiculous. He’s being charged for doing something he has every right to do? How many times have governors and presidents threatened a veto if they didn’t get there way? There’s nothing unusual or untoward about any of it. It’s pure unadulterated sour grapes.

Being booked is being arrested.

He should do the mug shot like Justin bieber did. Much less damaging to make it look like a publicity shot.

He should refuse and not allow a mug shot or prints to be taken. Take it to the mat - call them out on their crap.

A “mugshot” is all the commies want anyway. They’ve got to have something to pimp their abortion Barbie b*tch with. I’d tell this so called “judge” to kiss my *** for going along with this commie ‘RAT farce. The Brownies down in Ferguson, Missouri are right. Our “justice” system is a joke. Nothing but a huge joke. And we have to pay for it. At least 80% of these so called lawyers and judges need to be thrown in jail. They’re all crooks! IMHO!!!

Out of curiosity, why do you think he handled it poorly? I’m asking sincerely.

I got yelled at here on FR about my reasoning, but I'm gonna take a chance and respond to your question.

Perry used his veto as a weapon to attempt to remove the DA, who is an elected official. I am very uncomfortable with that. It should be up to the voters, or the state's impeachment process, to remove that DA.

I'm not saying that the DA shouldn't be removed. I'm also not saying that what Perry did is illegal, because it is not illegal. What I am saying is that I don't like to see any executive use his veto power as a way to get rid of a freely elected official.

Can you image the GOP outrage if Obama said he would veto an important bill unless Sen. Cruz resigned?

I will now retreat to my bunker to wait out the inevitable incoming fire.

Perhaps you meant ‘GOP tripping over themselves GLEE’ if zero did such.

use his veto power as a way to get rid of a freely elected official

************

Not going to jump as you’ve made a logical argument of your position.

The use of the veto wasn’t to get rid of a freely elected official. It was to defund
a small unit within the DA’s total operation. It wouldn’t have impacted her per se but
would have impact several employees, etc if they couldn’t have been moved into other
positions. The Travis County gov’t funded the vetoed money as I understand it.

Goes to show that Perry isn’t someone the neocons want around. Another sacrificial lamb on the alter of the elitests. They are still going to push Jeb as their chosen. Perry is expendable and they are happy to have the Dems knock him out.

That’s why they were so stupid - even Axelrod affirmed - to try to hit what they thought was a home-run.

There are 30 million Independents ALONE, not counting conservatives who want the governance model Perry has put together for their OWN STATE.

Nationwide, this will be perceived as petty POTUS politics, and added onto the huge pile of destructive blows the RAT party has dealt the USA.

The Muslims have something called lawfare where they use the courts to harass people who tell the truth and Islam and jihad. The Dems have their own lawfare to harass Republicans going about their duties or being effective. Look at what happened to Tom Delay with the grand jury shopping of the Democrats. Look at what is happening to Gov. Rick Perry who, it seems, called more attention to a drunken, democrat prosecutor than the Democrats would have wanted called attention to.

Maybe Perry should take a cue from Obama on executive action and put the judge in Jail along with the prosecutor and the dyke.

A Texas judge opted Monday not to issue an arrest warrant

The Legislature should IMPEACH and REMOVE the Judge for not outright dismissing the case on first sight.

They hate it when someone does what they say they will do - to the point where they consider it criminal....
