Texas Gov. Rick Perry indicted, faces 99 years if convicted (Video)

According to the Associated Press, via the Huffington Post:

Perry was indicted on charges of abuse of official capacity, a first-degree felony with potential punishments of five to 99 years in prison, and coercion of a public servant, a third-degree felony that carries a punishment of two to 10 years.

Perry was a presidential hopeful in 2012, and is expected to make a run in 2016. Perry is a Republican; Lehmberg, who was sentenced to 45 days for driving while intoxicated, is a Democrat, and repeatedly refused the governor’s calls to resign.

What follows is booking footage from Lehmberg’s arrest.

There’s an old adage that a prosecutor can persuade a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich. This is because it’s solely within the prosecutor’s discretion as to what evidence is presented. Twitter user Charles Watson agrees.

Liberals Trying to Destroy Rick Perry With Bogus Indictment http://t.co/WuAHWwH1s7

Even David Axelrod, confidante and former senior aide to President Obama, thought the indictment was lame.

Unless he was demonstrably trying to scrap the ethics unit for other than his stated reason, Perry indictment seems pretty sketchy.

Hen's teeth are more common than pardons, for anyone.

I should have known that about Ma Ferguson. Reconstruction weakened the governor, and I always lumped pardon powers in with that abomination.

Thanks for the reminder.

Is one to assume that removing funding from a corrupt elected official, for this case and any case is against the law? How did the law come to favor corrupt officials? Wonder why the lame-stream media never mentioned or informed the public?

The first land-clearing attempt was against WI Gov. Walker. Next was the Bob McDonnell case, and now the bolsheviks have moved on to Texas to bump Perry. Next will be Ted Cruz.

If constitutionally permitted in Texas, Governor Perry should simply pardon himself.

Or let his successor, Gov. Abbott do so a la Nixon/Ford

Fried chicken beaks and alligator toenails ... Been a long time since have had ‘em. Pardon me ... wrong thread. Thought was on the cooking recipe thread. Paw used to pay good money for hen’s teeth.

If you watch the police video of the drunken DA cursing police and kicking in the walls of her cell, Perry would have been derelict in his duties as governor not to do something. He asked her to resign, but she refused so he did the only thing he could, defunded her office with a line item veto. Of course the liberal media is foaming at the mouth trying to get Perry. This case, like the phony indictments against Wisconsin governor Scott Walker, will be thrown out of court.

Hangings too good for that DA!

Let's see, a governor, exercising his First Amendment RIGHT to free speech, threatened to kill funding for a nut job.

Then he does veto it and now this POS is attempting to use his position, because he's a cry baby, to threaten a sitting governor with DOING HIS JOB?!

Up yours you slimy butt munching DA!

Fact is it worked for them like a charm in removing Tom DeLay from the battlefield. So they are going to keep doing it until it backfires and/or they have to pay a penalty.

I take Axelrod at his word that even he thinks this is lame.

However, Axelrod, being the political animal that he is,

Axelrod is hoping Perry runs and becomes the nominee

because I’m sure he feels Perry would be easy to beat in 2016.

The persecutor and every member of the grand jury that retuned this indictment should be charged with the same and convicted.

The presidential campaign is in full swing. The left is proceeding with its job of destroying any Republican who might have a chance at the presidency.

All the Christians on FR need to agree in prayer, that the situation in the Book of Esther, in the Bible is repeated here. That Holder and Obama end up with the 99 years.

Haman built a gallows for Mordecai to be hanged on because he hated the Jews. Esther had not revealed her Jewish roots to the King. However, she went before the King, at a possible cost of her life, and he gave her what she wanted up to half the Kingdom, and she requested his presence and the presence of Haman at a meal....in the end Haman fell onto the bed to beg Queen Esther for his life, and the King thought he was molesting her, so Haman was hanged on the same gallows he meant for Mordecai.

Sounds fair that the evil ones ...AG & Pres get that sentence, don’t you? And Perry is exonerated...that is my prayer today and until this is cleared up.

:)
