Ebola Clinic Is Looted In Liberian Capital's Largest Slum (virus stolen!)

MONROVIA, Liberia (AP) — Liberian officials fear Ebola could soon spread through the capital's largest slum after residents raided a quarantine center for suspected patients and took items including blood-stained sheets and mattresses.

The violence in the West Point slum occurred late Saturday and was led by residents angry that patients were brought from other parts of the capital to the holding center, Tolbert Nyenswah, assistant health minister, said Sunday. It was not immediately clear how many patients had been at the center.

West Point residents went on a "looting spree," stealing items from the clinic that were likely infected, said a senior police official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief the press. The residents took mattresses, sheets and blankets that had bloodstains, which could spread the infection.

Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Add to that recipe southern Europe having to deal with invaders from Africa.

Horrible thought, but too true. But at least European countries have reasonably good sanitation and health care.

African cities are teaming sewers. I read a great, humorous book years ago: Baghdad Without a Map, in which the author says of Khartoum: "Literally, the streets are paved in sh**." I can't imagine that streets in East Africa are any better.

Misnomer. The whole capital is a slum.

Preppers’ PING!!

This demonstrates the wild card in many SHTF events. Though the event is serious, it is is managable until peoples reaction to the event begins to come into play and it is often that reaction that becomes the catalyst that propels a serious event into a SHTF.

I've caught a lot of flack from fellows saying will in my neighborhood we would all pull together and overcome our troubles and I never doubt that in many places that's what would happen. The question is will calm and level heads prevail in enough places to stop the panic from becoming a stampede?

Hat Tip to TEXOKIE for the heads-up.

I expect Ebola to reach the West soon. It may not kill huge numbers because we don’t rub ourselves against the dead and oozing bodies of our loved ones, but it will crush the economy for months or possibly a few years, and that could kill substantial numbers.

Also for preppers:

Once ebola breaks out, food supplies disappear and the economy collapses.

"As bad as things are right now, I didn't think things could possibly get any worse."

Remember the days when you could say that maybe every couple of months or years?

Now it is happening by the hour.

And to drive his point home, he includes this:

Why are we blacks becoming so reactive, so sensitive to any remarks, no matter how well-meaning, about our failure as a race? Why are we becoming like the Jews who see every accusation as a manifestation of anti-Semitism?

God!!!!! Like the Jews... curses. Everyone knows how bad they are! /s

Well, the looters won’t last long.

I hope they really enjoyed themselves and will enjoy dying their horrible death to come.

Hope they felt it was worth it.

I spent a year and a half of my flying career in Africa, and have a genuine love for all the people I met and worked with there. Even so, facts are facts.

Ever heard of Jason Richwine?

There's far more lethal instruments of bio-warfare than Ebola that ISIS could use.

Seems to me it is an exquisite suicide weapon. It is sinister, devious, and evokes a high level of terror, which appeals to Jihadists who are always coming up with new ways to conceal destructive devices. Unlike a body bomb, no one can detect this one (approx. 20 day incubation) until it's too late. Also the medical profession relies on followup to identify those who have had contact with a diseased carrier as a means to contain the spread. Fat chance you would get cooperation in this instance. Just think if there was a coordinated attack by a dozen or so in major metropolitan areas in the U.S.

For those who think it won’t happen here, switch out Ferguson for West Point. If it’s not nailed down a certain element will loot it. Thanks, obama and your sons.

Combine this with doctors and medical personnel in W. Africa fleeing their countries and volunteers flying home and who’s left to care for the patients? Charlie Rose This Week had on some woman, didn’t catch who she was, stating there are only 50 doctors left in Nigeria (a FRiend said it was Liberia but either way). Doctors are on strike. A very scary article by a doctor in Lagos about lack of PPEs, medical personnel afraid and even if the strike ended there wouldn’t be enough facilities -

a truck driver who customarily made the 370-mile (600-kilometer) trip from the forest region to the capital several times a month, has stayed put for three months because no one wants food from the southeast anymore, even though transmission through food is very unlikely.

Don't worry, it's very unlikely you'll die from food handled by an infected person but you COULD.

No kidding. I bet if the thugs in Ferguson looted a clinic and saw vials labeled "Ebola", they'd steal it thinking it was some kind of liquor.
