One of the major factors contributing to the stressful environment for young black males (and other minority youth) continues to be the persistent pattern of police harassment, misconduct and brutality toward these youth. As Michelle Alexander has noted in her recent book, "The New Jim Crow," the United States has one of the highest incarceration rates in the world; this seems to be a deliberate strategy to deal with black males who are frequently viewed as a threat to the social order.

How much money and assistance will be enough? Until the Black community finally refuses to be victims and the concept of family once again becomes important within the whole the problem will not be solved.
Oh, blah, blah, blah...BS. Black leadership in this country has failed to place the blame where it belongs...on the black family unit. 72% of black children are illegitimate and part of the reason is because single mothers have greater benefits if there is no male present. The US has thrown over $2 trillion towards this problem since the War on Poverty began under Johnson. Until I see blacks trying to help themselves, I see no reason why I should see any more of my tax dollars going their way. Indeed, I think all welfare recipients, if they can fog a mirror, should show up M-F for a gov't job cleaning toilets, washing windows, whatever needs to be done. If they have small kids, they still show up for work, but a small stipend is paid for child care, which does down the more kids you have. Germany did a program like this an welfare claims fell like a stone. I also think it would shore up the black family.
I won’t buy that anymore......there’s plenty of others without fathers who make something of themselves who are raised by single mothers. My mom raised four of us after my dad died.
What is needed is teaching black mothers how to work and be responsible for their children....and that means if they commit crimes they pay with jail time.
Unfortunately the black mothers are more times then not quite willing to sit around and do their nails and sit on the welfare system rather than see to the affairs of their children......when they can love their children enough to set a good example this isn’t going to change.
i read this idiotic article. the comments were great. she spells her name jewelle, how quaint. she is professor emerita of UC Berkeley’s School of Social Welfare which explains everything else. what has she done? she wrote a book in 1988 that obviously no one read. naturally she wants more money but refuses to understand the basic solution. the feral government caused this and they don’t intend to admit that or fix it.

The black leadership hasn’t yet come together in the numbers strong enough to pull their own people out of thier self created messes......I doubt they care once they have their own success.....and as long as we keep funding their lifestyles the black population aren’t going to change....
I don’t know if you are referring to Shockley’s writings about ‘bell curves’ as to cultural differences and origins but I believe his presentation is on spot as to why and how the different societal populations/groups behave and interact.
As long as there are millions of guilt-ridden white liberals excusing the behavior of people like Michael Brown, we should not expect the situation to improve.

I am pretty willing to bet “mom” or “grandma” (as it is in many cases as mom was too unfit to care for the brood of multi father children) benefits financially from the “kid’s” dealings. So ofcourse you don’t want to see The kid shackled and hauled off, he is a net gain to your parasitic way of life.
