Travelodge removes the Bible from every room: chain 'doesn't want to discriminate'

One of Britain’s biggest hotel chains has removed Bibles from its rooms to avoid upsetting non-Christians.

The decision by Travelodge has been condemned as ‘tragic and bizarre’ by the Church of England, which says Bibles in hotel rooms are important to provide hope, comfort and inspiration to travellers.

But the chain, which runs 500 hotels, said the country was becoming increasingly multicultural and it had taken the action for ‘diversity reasons’.

It said the policy was implemented ‘in order not to discriminate against any religion’ – despite having had no complaints from guests.

Bibles were taken away at the same time as a refurbishment of its rooms, removing drawers where they were kept.

The Bibles, which were provided free by the Gideon Society, have been retained and are stored behind reception for guests to borrow on request, the company says.

A Church of England spokesman said: ‘It seems both tragic and bizarre that hotels would remove the word of God for the sake of ergonomic design, economic incentive or a spurious definition of the word “diversity”.’

It seems not all Travelodges even have Bibles available on request. At the branch in Battersea, south London, there was no Bible in the room or behind reception.

The Gideons are hoping that a non-Christian will read The Word and find the path to salvation.

The Gideon's place Holy Bibles free to all organizations that allow them to do so, Dr. offices, library's, etc.. The Gideon's are an Christian organization of many years and this is their main purpose.

Recently the Dr.’s office has removed the Holy Bible from their waiting room. It was my habit to get it immediately and read while waiting. When I inquired where it was, first it was shrugged off, and then I found it in one of the drawers of a handsome bureau, and of course I read from it and placed it back on the top and when next I returned the Bible is not there and all the drawers are locked!!!

The Bible says Satan is in charge of this world. It is an ever increasing reality. People are not taught faith in God and the Churches are diminishing. People are secular and do not know/ and worship God.

God bless the Gideon's and all that read the Holy Bible of God's scriptures/ Word and God Bless America. Help us LORD, in Jesus name amen.

I just figure it would be as easy to get Korans and then most everybody is happy.

Oh well.

Many hotels have removed bibles from rooms but they are available at the front desk.

I've stayed at many hotels throughout the Middle East and I've never seen a Bible. Why would there be?

Kind of the point of my post. We are so politically correct in this country, it's pathetic. Expect similar treatment in other countries and you run the risk of being shot.

Maybe you need to stock up on Bibles whenever you see them cheap at second hand book sales and leave one in your hotel room if it’s not provided. It may get ditched, or it may be found by someone who will appreciate it. Perhaps even put a note in it that it was left there by a guest so hotel staff don’t get nailed, and state that whoever finds it is welcome to take it. Unfortunately, I don’t travel much so I don’t really get a chance to do that.

I do, however, keep a few in my car and I have sometimes been asked by someone at a car wash if they can take one. I find a useful addition to that, given that in South Africa for many English is a second or third language, is John Blanchard’s booklet Ultimate Questions which is very simply written so I like to have a stock of those as well.

I’ve often thought that if Christianity and the Bible were outlawed, one would be able to tell the real Christians from the nominal version. The real Christians would be able to hold a Bible study without the printed pages in front of them.

If the moslems ever form a islamic version of “The Gideons” then they can provide Korans at no cost to the hotels. Unfortunately, if an “infidel” looks at the book cross-eyed they’ll be forced to burn the hotel to the ground.

You just can’t win.

Only G-d is in control. The notion of an evil entity fighting for control or being in control is 100% pagan.
