There is little if any practice of modern antiseptic methods in those countries. Your average truck stop public toilet is cleaner than most of those towns and villages.

Hey at least this is off the news and the cops are being targeted by left wing groups to gin up their base for the elections.
After all the Dems have nothing else to run on.

"How many did these 128 people infect?"

And that my Freeper friend is the money question.

Can't find the link so I am going from memory

The numbers thus far and of course subject to change.
Each Ebola victim infects 1.8 people. 60 to 70 percent die
After one year (march 2015) there will be 170,000 infected 110,000 dead
After two years (march 2016) there will be 310,000,000 infected 200,000,000 dead
After three years (march 2017) there will be 6 billion infected and 4 billion dead.

Scary numbers, I seriously doubt the numbers are that bad, but those are the numbers as of now.

Oh one more thing, WHO says it's numbers are probably only 25-50% of the real numbers due to under reporting of Ebola.

This means Ebola rate is INCREASING rapidly. Last week the stats were 108 cases and 45 deaths in the three days of Aug. 2 to 4. The lastest stats are 128 cases and 56 deaths in the two days of Aug. 10 & 11. That means last week the rate of cases were 36 per day and deaths were 15 per day which has now risen to 64 new cases per day and 28 deaths per day. This represents almost a DOUBLING in the Ebola outbreak in just a week.

Of course, this is based on the official stats and I suspect the real numbers are much higher.

Correct but see my post above and you will see that even going by the official stats, the rate has almost DOUBLED in just a week.

See my analysis of the latest stats in my Post #9 above. The breakdown shows almost a DOUBLING of the Ebola outbreak in just a week. And this is just using the OFFICIAL stats which are probably way low.

Yep, the infection and death rates seem to be accelerating, not being brought under control yet. With people in Africa seeking to escape the danger, there is the possibility that the disease will spread even farther.

When you consider the economic repercussions of quarantine for a country or even just a significant district, not to mention the complications there for provisions for those in the quarantined area, governments will be slow to act, despite the danger of the outbreak.

My math is showing that by September 1, total Ebola deaths (OFFICIAL) will be over 1500 with over 100 deaths per day. By beginning of October, this rate increase would yield a total of 10,000 deaths with a rate of over 1000 fatalities per day. And this is using official stats.

We'll see what happens next week. If the rate is over 50 deaths per day (now it is is 28) that will indicate the projections are correct.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...
