Sorry, Bloomberg is link only:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-08-13/facebook-to-track-users-across-devices-to-study-shopping-habits.html

Facebook is near over the top and on the very edge with all this tracking. You been told about it.

"Facebook has been bulking up advertising services as the social network’s mobile ads propel revenue and profit. While users and privacy watchdogs around the world criticize Facebook’s use of personal data, the company is under pressure from advertisers to prove that their mobile promotions are effective."

I pray we never have to go to advertising to fund FR.

Never been to FB. But to save them the trouble, my shopping habits can be summed up in two words...
Capital Strike

Facebook is evil but nothing compared to Google.

Just Facebook or all Social Media? This sort of thing is becoming the norm. It’s how these companies monetize. You don’t think your credit card company tracks your buying habits and sells them?

On the other hand, perhaps a recruitment drive is in order.

If we double the number of FR readers, we are likely to double the number of FR contributors.

What if we STRONGLY encourage FReepers to ask several of their conservative FRiends to come on over and read our site?

I think FR revenue will follow suit. Especially, we need to turn on younger folks to FR, before we turn into a generationally divided group.

Perhaps some of our internally focused advertising on threads can encourage current readers to recruit new readers.

Hey, that’s my 2 cents for the day! Person to Person marketing!

Be well, Mr. Thompson!

Whenever I share an article I think is of interest to my friends, I always use the FR link....

That way, there’s a chance they get afflicted with the addiction.

Well then, pity me. (not really)

I made one years ago, before they started on their path of invasiveness, because my family said it would be an easy way to stay in touch and up to date...share pics, etc.

Unfortunately, that hasn’t really come to pass...so my account, though active, is relatively idle...not much they’re going to get out of me...

So don’t be so down on FReepers who may have done so years ago for entirely innocent reasons.

You don’t think your credit card company tracks your buying habits and sells them?

Not if you pay cash for everything and use the card for just online purchases.

We’re being tracked by everybody these days. Facebook is just one among many.

I do have a Facebook account, & I enjoy posting articles on it that I found here on FR.

Easy solution to this: erase your Facebook account and begin your own social network where none of these practices would be allowed. And, of course, forgo the billions you could make.

I also hope that Jim. But remember, advertising is one thing. Tracking is a whole nuther thing, and the source of this gnashing of teeth.
