One of his first gigs was making training videos for HP. We had to watch him play the role of amiable, analytical, driver, expressive personality customers, and how we as customer service reps were to react and capitalize on each. This was in 1981.

Good read.

Never found him that funny myself, politics aside.

ArtDodger: Conservatives are unhappy at the loss of freedoms. Liberals get everything they desire and become more unhappy.

OneWingedShark: Happiness isn't really a liberal/conservative thing, not at all. Its far more connected to attitude than political-leanings (not to say that those leanings don't tend to impact attitude).

The irony is that liberals claim to love everybody, but in fact they want big government and oppressive laws because they do not, in fact, love anybody. They don't even like each other. So the only resource they see as effective is brute force, but they don't want to admit it. So thy preach love while voting for tyranny.

Conservatives actually DO trust in the human spirit, and so believe that by reducing government interference (not to mention tyranny), people will be free to be what they want to be, and will naturally be tolerant and law abiding and caring for one another because of their understanding of their interdependence. Yet conservatives know that such beneficial human behavior can only be found under the stress of having to perform, of having to learn and work and strive.

Liberals mock this as tyranny, and then impose real tyranny when they steal and hand out money to their followers who promptly refuse to work or live in a civilized manner.

Yes, there are serious imbalances in conservatism, especially in refusing to see that corporations should not be treated as people, otherwise the entire work ethic and positive feedback for competition falls apart. But this is an adjustment of a basically correct philosophy. Liberals, on the other hand, want to throw the entirety of human civilization into the garbage, proclaim happiness by fiat, and just steal everything they need while destroying everyone in their way - in other words, swap insanity for even trying to be human.

And then when this doesn't work, they take drugs or kill themselves - which they see as preferable to admitting they are wrong.

Narcissists will narcissist, I guess.

In years of age, I’ve outlived Hitler, Stalin, Dick the Bruiser, Edgar Allen Poe, my USPS mail carrier, the lawn boy, Aristotle and now Robin Williams. I’m sure some assassin angel has me in his sights.

Come and get me...

Right. Williams was skilled at improv. First time I saw him, my brother took me to see Williams do stand up. He could take any object handed to him and deliver a joke about it on the spot. My sides were aching after that performance. Williams was that good.

Jonathan Winters was his idol. Winters could improvise a joke about any object too.

Sadly, both Williams and Winters suffered from mental health issues. May they both rest in peace.

I’m not going to pretend I liked him, or his awful acting, but I’m glad that in his passing, it brings attention to the very real problem of depression.

In his case I don't know what came first, the depression or the drugs, but the very real problem of drugs not helping and probably increasing the risk of suicide, this should bring attention to.

I don’t care about his political leanings.

He was funny, made me laugh.

And now he’s gone.

I’m not laughing.

It’s a modern retelling of an offshoot of Arthurian Legend! The same plot as Wagner’s Parsifal.

Well you did say: "(not to say that those leanings don't tend to impact attitude)."

If that's still not supported, I apologize, though I admit I'm not clear how it's not germane.

My conservative bona fides can be checked here on this forum going back pre-millennium. Your analysis is so handy, so seemingly logical and so wrong.

I knew Robin, not well, but certainly since anyone in Marin County CA knew his name. My four children all went to the same high school, Redwood, in Larkspur CA, of which Robin was a graduate. At every graduation, dating to 1982, when he was already a 'star' he did an appearance via audio with a personalized stand-up routine for the graduating class. It was off-color and not politik at times, but fortunately the administration let it fly and no speaker could equal his ability to reach out and touch his audience.

Robin loved this country, its people and its tradition. He never mocked patriotism. More importantly, he loved our troops and made untold visits to war zones in the Middle East and vets hospitals throughout the US.

He had demons. Demons arising from alcohol and drug abuse. These demons don't choose a political party and ensuing depression is the most horrible demon of all. Robin was clean for 20+ years, but not everyone stays clean.

Robin Williams' death by any means is a great loss for our country and young people everywhere. Trust me on this.
