The American Left used to be patriotic. In its heyday, Eugene V. Debs never attacked America, and the socialist vision he advocated was in his eyes a way to realize the promise of America. As for the American Communist Party, in reality the tool of Stalin’s USSR, it pretended in the 1940s to be pro-American, and its chairman, Earl Browder, coined the slogan “Communism is 20th century Americanism.” This pretense came to an end during the Cold War, when the Left supported the Soviet bloc and all of its policies, and argued that America was in the process of becoming a nascent fascist state.
The remnants of the ’60s New Left identified with America’s new enemies, especially North Vietnam, Communist Cuba, the PLO, and, in the ’80s, Sandinista Nicaragua. After 9/11, many of its adherents took the position that the United States had the terror attack coming to it, since the perpetrators had taken 3000 lives in protest against America’s imperial ambitions and control.

Yup. Just look at what we did in Japan and Germany after WW II. And then in Iraq after the 2nd go around. Yup. We showed them by taking over and controlling everything in those countries didn't we. Uh, maybe not so much. Well except for the oil in Iraq that'll help pay for the war. Uh, maybe not so much there either.
And now they’ve captured the White House.

No it isn’t. There was a time when leftists weren’t so ghastly horrid and vicious…I remember Hubert Humphrey, for instance. He was never a “hater” the way Pelosi and Obama and Reid are haters. He was wrong, but if he had been president he would not have betrayed America out of an excess of hate.
Yeah, he should have said ‘’used to be able to at least claim to be patriotic’’. I guess he meant that they can’t even do that anymore.
I talked to a brother of mine yesterday. He has bought the whole bullshit line from global warming to rainbows coming out of Obamas ass. Israel getting thousands of missiles launched at it? Just a fairy tale.

The Democrat Party is no longer a political party; it has now become nothing more than an Obama Cult, and your brother will probably drink Obama's "Kool-Aid" when Obama tells him to.
The closest historic parallel we have to this Obama Cult is followers of the Jim (James) Jones Cult who, at the behest of Jim Jones, willingly killed themselves with cyanide laced Kool-Aid. Also, both Jim Jones and Obama were smooth talking, charismatic "Community Organizers," and both were/are avowed Marxist Communists with membership in the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The only difference between the Obama Cult and the Jim Jones Cult, other than the enormous size of the Obama Cult, is Jim Jones offered his followers poisoned Kool-Aid at the end, and Obama is offering his followers revolution, but the end result is the same: they lead their followers to self- destruction.
Back in ‘48 I was a kid growing up in NYC and the Communists were always on street corners preaching some left wing line (before they were banned). I remember some gal on a street corner wanting people to sign the “Stockholm Peace Pledge” (aka give the Russians what they want).
When they had their May Day parades, they had banners showing hands ripping down the “Newspaper Barrier” and the Daily Worker forging through. They REALLY threw a rod when NATO was proposed - petitions at every street corner. Just like obama today, NOTHING they espoused was in America’s favor.
