Ron Paul: Don’t Palestinians Have a Right to Defend Themselves Too?

Ron Paul Institute
August 5, 2014

Speaking on Voices of Liberty, RPI Chairman and Founder Ron Paul explains that, while he agrees with the often repeated in the media declaration that “Israel has a right to defend herself,” he wonders why more people in the media don’t voice support for Palestinians’ right to defend themselves too.

Paul elaborates:

And [Israel Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu says 'Don’t second-guess me, don’t push a peace treaty on me because I’m gonna defend this country.' I think Israel absolutely has a right to do this, but never once have I heard on TV — it might have been said, but I haven’t heard it yet — that the Palestinians have a right to defend themselves because they must feel oppressed. You know, they can’t go anywhere. They can’t go back and forth to Israel. They can’t go into Egypt. So they feel pretty well trapped too, but nobody says that this entrapment they have gives them a right to defend themselves from being imprisoned in this particular area.

Paul then expresses his desire that the US government would just keep out of the conflict and stop its funding of Palestine and much larger funding of Israel, including $225 million dollars more for Israel’s Iron Dome system that Congress passed on Friday. Paul suggests this foreign aid creates a “moral responsibility” in the US for deaths of innocent people.

In addition to suffering from severe restrictions on their ability to travel and the ongoing war, Gazans have also been subject to a trade blockade. Read here a brief account of some ways in which long-term blockade of Gaza and the ongoing war combine to make life in Gaza difficult.

The Palestinians should defend themselves-by stringing up the Hamas leadership. When the rockets stop coming into Israel, Israel will withdraw. By siding with Hamas, the media has convinced Hamas that it is in a strong bargaining position, so the rockets keep coming. It has also motivated Hamas to keep using women and children as shields because it makes such good press against Israel.

It’s always good news when a fool outs himself.

And this one does so over and over again.

” They can’t go back and forth to Israel. They can’t go into Egypt. So they feel pretty well trapped too, but nobody says that this entrapment they have gives them a right to defend themselves from being imprisoned in this particular area.”

A truly idiotic comment. They can’t go anywhere because everywhere they go they destroy. What a moron.

This attitude is typical of the Birch/"palaeo" Right. They all hate Israel's guts because they think the Jews are behind the "conspiracy" and that Israel is the headquarters of the new world order.

In other words, they're against the coming of Mashiach and believe HaShem is (lehavdil!) "Satan."

Might be a valid argument if Hamas/Gaza set up a defensive line to keep Israel out, built anti-aircraft to shoot down any Israeli jets or even tried to break the shipping blockade. But when they lob thousands of missiles at Israeli civilians, Ron Paul just beclowns himself when he claims that is part of an attempt to defend themselves.

why more people in the media don’t voice support for Palestinians’ right to defend themselves too.

They are responsible for their own conditions. It is the law of cause and effect. Their own actions are the ultimate cause of what is happening to them as a result. If they would make peace with Israel, and not initiate force against Israel, their conditions would gradually improve in the long run, and they would not need to defend themselves in the short run. But, they are too stupid and too stubborn to realize that.People that dumb and stubborn do not deserve to be pitied or helped.

In addition to suffering from severe restrictions on their ability to travel and the ongoing war, Gazans have also been subject to a trade blockade.

The whole purpose of the trade blockade is to make the Gazans suffer. It is a legitimate form of warfare. If they made and kept a real peace treaty they would not be blockaded.

They have repeatedly fired the first shot (initially and when they break each “ceasefire”).

He and Jimmy Carter should take the same flight to Mosul.

I appreciate your candor about Ron Paul.

It is past time for Ron Paul and Jimmy Carter to close their hate filled mouths and JSTFU.

Regardless of their protestations to the contrary, the Pauls continue to demonstrate not mere their kookiness, but their penchant for anti-Semitism.
