(UPDATED) US Secretary of State John Kerry is pushing for an agreement to end all acts that risk further inflaming relations between Beijing and its Southeast Asian neighbors.

US Secretary of State John Kerry and some of his fellow foreign ministers - dressed in traditional shirts - pose for an "ASEAN-style" handshake before a dinner with members of the Southeast Asian regional group in Naypyitaw, Burma, on August 9, 2014.

The United States sought to ease maritime tensions as Asian and global powers gathered for security talks Sunday, August 10, but said that it did not want to "confront" China over its strategy in the region.

US Secretary of State John Kerry is pushing for an agreement to end all acts that risk further inflaming relations between Beijing and its Southeast Asian neighbors, following several tense encounters in the contested South China Sea this year.

Washington's top diplomat is touring the region despite a slew of major international crises in other parts of the world as the US looks to reinvigorate alliances in the Asia-Pacific as part of President Barack Obama's "pivot" east.

Observers say sea disputes will dominate the ASEAN Regional Forum in Myanmar's capital Naypyidaw on Sunday, which brings together Southeast Asian foreign ministers and key partners, including the US, Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea, Russia and the European Union.

While Washington is looking to reassure its Southeast Asian allies, officials insist there will not be a "showdown" between the two world superpowers....

The best way to do that would be to leave Kerry home. Everything he’s involved in goes bad quickly.

Story was about Kerry... but everything this administration touches goes to shit quickly.

I’d list all the individuals but the internet has a bandwidth limit.

I know the story was about Kerry.

But, both Hillary and Kerry have been touted (at one time or another) as being experienced and of presidential timber. Both have been Secretary of State, too. Hil has even touted her million plus miles of flight while in the office as a measure of her dedication and success. So, I can’t help thinking of them together when Sec. of State doings come up.

"The best way to do that would be to leave Kerry at home"

The best way would be for the US Senate to ratify the Law of the Sea Treaty.

Neither Bush nor Obama was able to get the treaty ratified so both have been forced to deal with these issues within the confines of the multi-national organizations.

1. Conflicts in the China Seas(South and East) negotiated within ASEAN.
2. Conflicts in the Arctic Ocean negotiated within the Arctic Council.
3. Conflicts in the Antarctic negotiated within the Organization of American States.

The only coastal nations that have not ratified LOST are the US, Turkey, Syria, Israel, and Iran.

That photo is another bunny suit moment. What kind of silliness are these people engaged in to dress up in a rainbow costume and perform the unity dance? Egads! To the keep!
