McDonald's July sales fell more than expected
CNBC ^ | August 8, 2014 | Staff

McDonald's on Friday reported July sales results that were much worse than analysts had expected. Following the report, the company's shares traded lower.

The fast-food giant reported global same-store sales fell 2.5 percent, compared with the 1.1 percent drop forecast by Consensus Metrix.

The dismal results prompted Janney Capital Markets to lower its estimates for the fast-food giant. Its analysts said the results "were the worst worldwide month in the last 10 years, once trading-day adjustments are taken into account."

I’ve been eating at McDonalds for the last fifty years. Several times a month, it’s McDonalds. I also frequent Burger King, Taco Bell, KFC, and a few others.

I don’t eat any of them enough to make a major impact on my dietary intake, but I like their food and I’m going to keep eating there if for no other reason than to send a great big FU to the food NATZIs.

I generally don’t go there unless I’m on the road, but they have a new sandwich I’m nuts about - The Jalapeno Double. Very nice and it has some kind of crunchy stuff on it that makes it REALLY satisfying.

“Every time I go to a McDonalds, the tables are filthy and there’s garbage on the floor.”

By me there have been panhandlers INSIDE; hard to say you have no change when they watch it handed to you. I just respond in Spanish and move along...

What they really want is an organic, gluten-free, healthy fast food place.

Never going to happen.

What angers me is to watch the glee with which folks here talk about McDonald’s going down. WTF?

My interpretation of the glee of people here, is that they have particular complaints about McDonald’s. They don’t like the food, they don’t like the service, they don’t like the price — seem to be common complaints. My take on it is that they think McDonald’s is getting what they deserve, for not producing a quality product and good customer service at a competitive price.

Others, please state your happiness about McDonald’s troubles.

I like McDonalds. I also don’t understand why people are so happy to see McDonalds not doing as well as they were. Where I live it doesn’t matter what time you go to McDonalds it’s busy.

I like their McDoubles and I don’t care if some burger snob likes it or not.

if i have a BOGO and a hankering i will eat there. if i am on a road trip and want to eat while driving a 1/4 pounder is easy to do. and the coffee is cheap. than again i spend time in tanks in the army so probably can’t appreciate starbucks anyway. btw i wonder how the starbucks’ ceo no guns policy works when it is in a grocery store. not that i care in colorado because no gun signs don’t have legal standing and i conceal carry.

You and me both. Whenever I'm in a hurry and not looking for anything fancy - it's the Golden Arches for me. Consistently good just about everywhere in the world I've been, and that includes Europe and the Orient.

I agree. I can get a hot dog, a slice of pizza and huge soda at Sams Club for $3.50 and be perfectly satisfied.

I discovered that I could stop at a local restaurant and get a prime rib dinner for about a dollar more than getting a McGut Bomb combo.

McDonalds never had the best food but I remember a time when Ray Kroc took pride in the cleanliness of the stores and the level of service. It might not have been much of a dining experience but you could always rely on them for a clean restroom, a serviceable cup of coffee and a place for the kids to burn off some energy during a long car trip.

Now it's such a scummy place, operated by mostly third world people with English as a second language and a base clientele of drunks, derelicts and defectives. The food you get tastes like it was microwaved after sitting in a freezer for about nine years. The much-fabled fries are way too salty, crusty and thin. Are there actually potatoes in them? I'm not so sure anymore.

And it's not cheap either. You can go to a Buffalo Wild Wings or a Red Robin where you get a very decent burger for about the same price and get to watch a game on the TV and drink a glass of beer while you're at it.

In fact there are another few dozen fast food burger chains like Five Guys, In-N-Out and Smashburger that are doing it right and absolutely crushing McDonalds in the marketplace.

HEB also gives out good samples on Sundays.
If you play your cards right, you can get a good meal while shopping. Last Sunday, I got some fajitas, pizza and some sausage. If you make friends with the old ladies handing out food you can go back for seconds. Also make friends with the tortilla lady. You can get some good samples there also.

Lunch on the go.

For my diet and budget a McChicken no bread and two apple slice packets for a total of $2 makes a very nice lunch.

Its a McChicken & a small coffee for me when I'm in a hurry.

It was the last time (of few) I ever went inside; I would only do that when the drive-through was stacked up. Nowadays you seriously barely wait; they added another lane for ordering just in time for the business to tank.
