Lack of immigration reform could hurt baby-boomer retirees, Graham says

U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham says America's retirement system could be at risk unless the nation's immigration problems get fixed.

In a speech to a Charleston business group, Graham said the U.S.'s graying population means there will be fewer workers in the job stream to keep stocking stressed government budget and benefit accounts, including Social Security.

And if the future economy includes millions of illegal workers who don't pay in, then benefits that a growing numbers of Americans will depend on for retirement will become even more drained, he said, pointing at an expected "tsunami" of retirements by 80 million Baby Boomers in the next decades.

"If you're down to two workers for every retiree, you better reform your immigration system," Graham said, "because you're going to need people from outside this country to fill the workforce."

Graham's comments came Thursday during the monthly Small Business Lunch at Halls Chophouse in Charleston.

Estimates are that there are between 11 million and 12 million illegal immigrants in the country today, many of whom are filling lower skilled positions in the manual labor, restaurant and home-building sectors - areas which often draw little scrutiny.

"It's not that Americans are lazy, we've just moved on," Graham said in describing the trend in what jobs are being taken.

"Always taking out of the meal tub, and never putting in, soon comes to the bottom." - Poor Richard's Almanac

The illegals (and this whole Comprehensive Immigration Reform thin is about the illegals!) don't add money to the Federal Treasury. They drain it!

Try this stupid, misleading, and false argument on somebody else, Lindsey!

Don’t stop at staffing the fast food joints with robots. Do it in the nursing homes, too.

I guess my question is:

Are politicians predisposed to stupidity, or is it a condition acquired after many years of drinking the DC water?

How could anyone that calls themselves a republican vote for this clown? How could anyone from either party vote for this limp-wristed clown?

Careful, he might just take you up on that offer.

After all it’s Lindsey, and we’re not too sure about that one.

Is this guy that damn stupid? Where are all these jobs that he says needs filling?

The GOPe says unemployment is too high. McConnell talks about the coal jobs that have been lost. Then Graham comes along and says there are jobs and we need Mexicans to fill them?

Leave it to the despicable Graham to justify support for unending and ever increasing mass immigration by saying its necessary to prop up another flawed public policy program like Social Security.

What a POS he is.

Graham said the U.S.'s graying population means there will be fewer workers in the job stream to keep stocking stressed government budget and benefit accounts, including Social Security.

So, the answer is that we need to import third world people, who will likely require more public assistance than any taxes they might contribute to save boomers?

Re-electing Linda Grahamnasty could hurt baby boomer retirees and their progeny.

Lindsey is a moron......

The tsunami of illegals is going to be the end of him...and our way of life.

Period.

I can only hope he goes first.

I am a baby-boomer, and the survival of a traditional America is of much more importance than any future pension I may or may not get. The fact that Graham is still in the Senate makes the voters of South Carolina look like idiots. And, this state was in the forefront fighting to the death for their statehood during the War between the States. Evidently, that bloodline died off or moved out. Also, his argument is totally false.

Lindsay is babbling nonsense. We already have the laws. We just need to enforce them, build a fence, and place our military on the border. Illegal aliens and immigrants from 3rd World countries only harm this country and will not iprove our gene pool.
