More people say they were drugged by sample chocolate bar at Denver County Fair's 'Pot Pavilion'

Denver County Fair officials confirmed they are investigating at least three separate cases of people who said they were drugged after eating a Full Melt Chocolate bar that contained THC at the Denver County Fair's Pot Pavilion.

Denver County Fair Spokesperson, Dana Cain said at least two of those people went to the hospital after they became dizzy, sick and confused.  They tested positive for THC.

"I was given one of these, it looked just like that," Richard Jones said as he pointed to a picture of a Full Melt Chocolate bar on his computer screen.

The Pot Pavilion was new to the fair this year. The cannabis-free event featured contests, music and a variety of vendors for those 21 and older.

Jones attended the event on Sunday and said vendor LivWell gave him a Full Melt chocolate bar that was supposed to be THC free.

"They were giving out samples and they made sure to tell us that the samples are just a sample of their chocolate, that doesn’t have any THC in it, and the guy went so far as to let us know if we came into the store, the ones in the store would taste different," Jones said.

An hour after consuming the chocolate bar Jones said he became dizzy and had to sit down.

"I was sweaty. I was nauseous. I was panicking. I was afraid it was a stroke or a heart attack," Jones said.

On-site EMTs first attended to the Arvada man before calling him an ambulance. Tests at the hospital revealed he had more than 100 nanograms of THC in his system, or about 20 times the legal driving limit.

"I essentially ate 10 doses at once, never having THC in my system ever before," Jones said.

Another man contacted 7NEWS and said after eating three Full Melt Chocolate bars at the fair he too became dizzy, confused and nauseous.

Denver police and the Marijuana Drug Enforcement Division are now investigating.

Meanwhile, LivWell released a statement late Tuesday and said:

"We are aware that someone made a complaint to 7NEWS alleging that chocolate samples distributed at the Denver County Fair contained cannabis.  If this occurred it was without our knowledge and was not sanctioned by our company.  We are currently investigating the matter."

Jones, who just wants his medical expenses reimbursed, contacted Denver police, but said they haven't been much help either.

"Honestly if it were the chief of police's 21-year-old daughter who had the same thing happen to her, I think there'd be storm troopers in every dispensary in the state," Jones said.

“Tests at the hospital revealed he had more than 100 nanograms of THC in his system, or about 20 times the legal driving limit.”

That’s a lot of dope.

Remind me never to have a Full Melt chocolate bar. Or order the “hash” at a restaurant in Colorado (can’t be too careful, I say).

Exactly. Just what would you expect at the “pot pavilion?” You’d think the title would be the first clue, the absence of a display of 4-H pottery would be the second.

That’s been happening very frequently in CO, mainly kids eating from their upscale parents’ stashes. The stuff is expensive.

I have no problem with the medical or recreational legality of cannabis products in Colorado. I think it’s a State Right issue, and under the rule of law it is now regulated according to the intent of the people, pursuant to the Colorado Constitution. And for the record, I do not use it.

However, this story reveals what appears to be an intentional poisoning of multiple unwitting persons. Even if they were checking out the “Pot Pavilion,” this is a new and curious phenomenon in Colorado and these folks had no desire to ingest any cannabis.

It certainly does seem to make the entire cannabis industry look bad, even sinister. I would never suggest, however, that certain elements opposed to legal cannabis could or would set up an intentional poisoning for propaganda purposes.

No, that could never happen. False flags are for other people.

These folks are in for a rude awakening. Slipping dope in the cookies is a serious crime, as it should be. Someone is probably going to regret this for a long time

I’ve been in bars since I quit drinking and have never expected or had anyone slip alcohol to me. Crap like this isn’t even remotely funny.

recruiting new addicts by any means possible.

Hysterical nonsense - pot is less addictive than alcohol, and the experiences these people had will drive them away rather than toward future pot use.
