Republican U.S. Rep. Kerry Bentivolio, considered by some to be an “accidental” congressman, was easily defeated Tuesday in a Michigan district and became the third U.S. House incumbent to lose his seat this year.

Lawyer and businessman David Trott, 53, who contributed nearly $2.5 million of his own money to his campaign, will face Democrat Bobby McKenzie, a counterterrorism expert, in the November general election to represent the 11th congressional district covering a swath of Detroit’s western and northern suburbs. …

Trott certainly got the RINO endorsements of Mitt Romney and the Chamber of Commerce. Bentivolio had a solidly conservative voting record.

I searched several websites, including the campaign site for this guy. The only thing I could find that "detailed" his credentials as a "counter terrorism expert" was this quote from the Detroit Free Press -

"McKenzie, 39, said in a news release he has worked in counterterrorism for the last 15 years, most recently with the U.S. State Department as a senior adviser."

So there you have it. He was on the State Department Team. Probably had a lot of close contact with Hildabeast. Maybe he was in on State Department Security? Who knows?

(Maybe he knew Chris Stevens?)

...Democrat Bobby McKenzie, a counterterrorism expert...

The AP is doing a subtle bias there...they describe the Republican as a "lawyer and businessman" who is obviously rich.

Sorry, AP...not buying it.

I saw a week or so ago that this congressman is likely lose, and he is one of the good guys. What’s the history here? Not knowing the district or the history, why is he considered the accidental congressman?

I don't doubt that the speaker of the house is quite pleased that he has a new open border vote.

why is he considered the accidental congressman?

Because Thaddeus McCotter dropped out and the GOP wanted Bentivolio to step aside and allow the hand picked party candidate to run unopposed as a write in because they said Bentivolio couldn't win over a democrat. They were wrong as usual.

Do you think this is also largely due to our primaries not being true primaries? I think that until we stop allowing Democrat voters to help choose our Republican candidates it is going to be like this.

Do you have any idea why conservatives didn’t turn out to support Bentivolio? That’s pretty disturbing.

I agree with you on closing the primary. My Rep Amash won big, but I think he could have won bigger were it not for the crossovers helping out his opponent.

A ha. It’s McCotter’s seat. That makes sense now. I wish we would have known more about this race nationally. I would have supported this guy with some cash to beat the insider guy. I just heard of the race over the weekend.
