Pakistan Looks to Buy Weapons from Russia
Via Meadia ^ | August 5, 2014 | Walter Russell Mead

After recently ending its arms embargo against Pakistan, Moscow seems set to go through with a deal to sell MI-35 attack helicopters to the South Asian nation, ostensibly to assist it in its war against Islamist militants.

This sale has little precedent; Pakistan and India’s Cold War alliances, with the U.S. and Russia respectively, have largely endured to this day. After 9/11 especially, Pakistan was a major recipient of American aid and military equipment, while India maintained its strategic relationship with Russia by continuing to be its biggest weapons buyer.

Looks like Zero has driven another one time ally, however dubious, into Russia's orbit. Since Post-British Raj, US and the Chi Comms supplied Pakistan with weapons while India got its weapons from the Soviet Union/Russia. Looks like Russia is going to provide weapons to both sides on the subcontinent.

Maybe it's time to buy some RSX stock. Or not.

Frankly, Pakistan is our enemy.

They just pretend to the contrary.

Who happily hosted Bin Laden?

Who supports the Taliban?

Where are Zawahiri and the rest of the Al Qaeda boys?

An ex-pat Russian named Alexander Litvinenko warned us that a lot of where actual al qaeda leaders principally Al-Zawahiri, was trained by Russian spec ops an KGB. What’s interesting was the fact that Litvinenko was fatally poisoned with a substance only held in large quantities by Russia, China, and the United States, and on British soil, so likely someone got hazardous radioactive material around British security to Sotheby’s job, and it feels hard to dismiss Litvinenko as a total whacko given the facts surrounding his death.

Some people do, but I disagree. I do say sadly that, as I mentioned, Putin is still pushing for some values that many American politicians seem to throw out. It is sad that rival nations have some recognition of values that we don’t seem to have much of here on our side.

This seems to be the reaction to Indias almost finalised order for Apache Longbow ‘çopters from the US. The Russians are extremely upset that India is now not interested in being blackmailed into buying sub-standard stuff and then extorted into paying kings ransoms for spares to make the equipment useable. It is now the Pakis in that position. I wonder how they will cope with Russian and Chinese equipment after using US hardware for so long.

Actually, they’ve used more Chinese equipment than American ones. Their largest fighter aircraft type is the Chinese F-7, followed by old French Mirages. The F-16 comes in 3rd.

It’s been this way for over 40 years.
