U.S. General Is Reportedly Killed by an Afghan Soldier
The New York Times ^ | Tuesday, August 5, 2014 | Matthew Rosenberg and Haris Kakar

A United States Army major general was killed on Tuesday by an Afghan soldier, shot at close range at a military training academy on the outskirts of Kabul, an official of the American-led coalition and Afghan media reported Tuesday. The officer was the highest-ranking member of the American military to die in hostilities in the Afghanistan war.

The coalition official, who spoke on condition of anonymity and would not release the name of the major general, said an unspecified number of other service members of the American-led coalition and Afghan soldiers, including a senior Afghan commander were also shot. Their conditions were not known.

Other details of the shooting were sketchy, and the coalition official would only confirm that “an incident” had taken place at the Afghan National Army Officer Academy.

The Taliban, which often takes credit for insider attacks, had no immediate comment on Tuesday. Zabiullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the insurgents, said he was still trying to collect information about the incident.

But, he added, the Taliban had many people inside the camp, and that one of their loyalists could have been responsible for the attack.

Do any FReepers have predictions on when 0bama will issue remarks on this and what he will say?

If the general was in fact from Germany, I'm sure jug-eared ass clown's minions will prepare a lengthy heartfelt message offering "his sincerest condolences" to his family and country. If it was in fact an American general... not a word.

“....the Taliban had many people inside the camp....”

.
Statement reminds me of the general condition in the West, both in Europe and the US.

And more coming in every day.

We should have turned Afghanistan into a parking lot in 2001.

At least nuke the poppy fields. I believe that’s the only reason we’re still there, to protect the heroin trade.

Any excuse the US had for being in Afghanistan was over with the death of BinLaden. Educating Afghani girls etc just never did it for me.

Logic would've been to punish Saudi Arabia, since that's where the 911 maniacs were from. Instead Saudi is buying up ports in the US and we and they together created ISIS in the insane fight against Assad.

How long can a country exist, running on stupid?

Very difficult to do when your superiors have orders from the top to make it as hard for our boys (and girls) to survive.

I pray every day that my son remains alert and keeps a good eye on his “allies”. Pull all of our people out and destroy the whole place.

Maintain a well fortified base there and any squirmishes that erupt then bomb that into complete oblivion and send em all to Allah. Repeat and rinse whenever necessary. No mixing Afghan troops with US men. Can’t trust the dirty muzzies.

No Americans ever should have died “nation building” in that hole. We should’ve bombed the daylights out of them, rooted out AQ, and then allowed it to return to the 7th Century.

I suggest that Afscramistan is the least of our worries. I think I’m more worried about this country and the ever increasing population of those connected to another world. No one seems to care, not until the demographic tipping point that is.

This occurred because of the politically correct merging of the two armies. It makes security for Americans a nightmare.

Ever notice how Heroin use has made such a big comeback domestically in recent years? It’s no coincidence. I’m sure there are military-based exporters in the mix who are at least partially responsible.

As much as I admired and supported GWB at the time; incidents like this remind me that he never really DID what he promised from atop the pile of rubble in NYC with the old fireman at his side.

I took it from his remarks that there would be hell to pay for the terrorists and those who sided WITH them. As I’ve viewed it, some of the terrorists got a little hell, a la Hellfire missiles from drones, etc.

But the second group; the aiders, abettors and supporters have pretty much been allowed to skate....and NOW are actually being encouraged and FUNDED by the RAGHEAD IN CHIEF, with no discernable resistance from the overpaid drunks in either house of Congress!

We could have pulled back in Iraq but yet left a well protected contingent with a lot of available American firepower. No way should ISIS have gained success in Iraq. We have the weapons to destroy those tasbards but won’t use them thanks to Obastard.
