Why Did NHS Give Josie Cunningham Boob Job But Not Reece Hawley His Cancer Drugs? (ACA Preview)

Alison Phillips says the Health Service MUST put life before cosmetic surgery after 21-year-old Reece was told he’ll have to fund his own cancer treatment

Last year the NHS spent £52.5million on boob jobs.

This month 21-year-old Reece Hawley was told he’ll have to fund his own cancer treatment which could let him live another two years.

Don’t think we need any more figures or facts, or justifications or explanations.

Those two facts say everything we need to know about the muddle-headed madness that is destroying our National Health Service.

We know, because we read about it daily, that the health service that has made our nation proud is on its knees.

It can no longer cope with the number of patients, the weight of obese patients, the “health tourists”, expensive drugs, ageing population and lack of social care in our communities.

And so people like Reece, a trainee teacher with everything to live for, is being condemned to die.

This is the same woman who said she deliberately smoked and drank when she found out she was pregnant with a son, not a daughter. She regrets not having an abortion because it is a boy.

Clearly, gender reassignment surgery should be the government’s top priority. We can try to fit in other stuff after that.

Not surprise, if you watched a lot of British comedies from the Seventies.

is being condemned to die

Well, if he has incurable cancer, it's the cancer that is bringing on his fate.

Palliative chemotherapy is in great demand, and is very popular, but in a fixed-resource setting like NHS it's unlikely to be a high priority.

If boob jobs are instead of curative chemo (ALL, Hodgkin's, some testicular), that's indisputably bad.

As far as a boob job vs. two years of throwing up and hair loss, well, that's something to discuss.

The recipients of breast implants will continue to vote Labour indefinitely. The young man with cancer is going to die in a couple of years, no matter what.

In the U.S., he would continue to vote Democrat indefinitely, of course, perhaps in more than one state ...

Please note: This story is about the United Kingdom. And the woman who had cosmetic surgery (Josie) never had cancer.

The thing is, when a patient has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, the goal is to extend his or her life as long as possible. There’s always a chance that, if you live long enough, a new drug on the market can extend your life even longer. There are cases of people living with “terminal” cancer for many years.

But, when the gov’t controls healthcare... well, this story is what happens.

I’m pro-free market, Jim Noble. But, the UK has a system of socialized medicine. There, the NHS is covering elective cosmetic surgery that’s unrelated to illness, but it won’t cover treatments for the two terminally ill patients in the story. I think you and I agree that there’s something wrong with that picture. And it seems as if the U.S. is headed down the same road.

The Mirror lists a lot of stuff but it is the fact that they have been invaded by the 3rd world that has swamped their system

Here is an idea, if it elective cosmetic surgery, let the “patient” pay.
