Mitch McConnell's Tight Kentucky Senate Race Might Hinge on Turnout

Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes' chances of upsetting Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's re-election bid may have brightened with the release of new polling data and a pledge from former President Bill Clinton to campaign on her behalf.

A July 19 Human Events/Gravis poll of 1,054 registered Kentucky voters found McConnell running even at 45 percent with Grimes.

"With only 10 percent of the voters undecided, it is hard to see either candidate breaking out. It really looks like it will be close through to the end with the decision turning on turnout," Doug Kaplan, the president of Gravis Marketing told Human Events.

Allison Moore, a spokeswoman for the McConnell campaign, told the paper that findings from a June poll they conducted of 807 likely voters found McConnell leading Grimes 49 percent to 42 percent.

She said McConnell is "well positioned for re-election in Kentucky, and every day his campaign is growing stronger."

Grimes' campaign has received a commitment from Clinton to attend an Aug. 6 fundraiser, according to The Hill.

Clinton appeared at a fundraiser in February 2013 and helped to raise more than $600,000 for Grimes’ campaign, reports The Hill. Grimes’ father, Jerry Lundergan, helped manage Bill Clinton's Kentucky campaigns.

This particular poll had an identified party percentage as follows:

50% Democrat
39% Republican
11% Independent

Ultimately as you point out the race will most likely be close regardless of who wins.

“Voting for Mitch is just being stupid after what he did to McDaniel.”

Yes. But putting a Leftist pro-abortion Democrat in the Senate will make it all better...

Obviously issues of life are quite secondary to bruised feelings and getting revenge.

To me the cause is a lot bigger than McConnell and petty vindictiveness against him, as reprehensible as he is.

It isn't "petty." It is deadly serious. That man funded racist attacks against us. Do you comprehend what the consequences of this will be if it is seen to have been a successful tactic?

It will be copied nation wide. I do not think you appreciate the severity of what he has done to us. This is not about one Senate seat, it is about giving our enemy a weapon with which to beat us to death.

If we do not make this man pay for that treason then we are done. McConnell crossed the Rubicon, and he has made it a contest of will between us and him.

If he wins, our movement loses. The tactic will be repeated again and again, and the tactic will as a result gain strength with each new accusation of racism.

They will beat us to death with that word, and everything we attempted to accomplish will be lost.

The anti-Mitch conservatives should have rushed to support him, quite openly and loudly.

That's really helped in the last 20-30 years.............

“It will be copied nation wide. “

This actually made me laugh.

Do you not know that these smears are ongoing and nation wide and have been for decades?

McConnell himself is a recipient of these smears continuously, which really shows his Hilo racy and desperateness and lack of moral fiber in using the same tactics.

McConnell has lost and no victory in the Fall will change that.

But a victory in the Fall for Grimes has real ramifications.

Don’t let your ego get the better of you.

“f we do not make this man pay for that treason then we are done. McConnell crossed the Rubicon, and he has made it a contest of will between us and him.”

It’s not about you or me.

It’s about the nation.

It’s worse for Grimes to get in.

That’s all that matters.

Same as voting for Grimes.

No, it's not the same. Staying at home does one vote worth of damage. Voting for Grimes does TWO votes worth of damage.

That's why I urge people to vote for Grimes. We need to do as much damage as possible to Mitch McConnell who stabbed us in the back.

We cannot afford to have that man survive his perfidy.

“So if The Gobbler loses but the Rs win the senate, who is in line to take the majority leader position?”

Cornyn, Alexander, Thune, Johnson.

Pride goes before a fall.

The heart is a liar.

The warrior who will not fight is a prisoner.

Two things.

1). Where is that from?

2). It’s irrelevant.

This is about who to fight, what to fight, why fight, how to fight.

Not whether to fight or not.

The enemy tricks people in to not fighting or stopping the true danger.

Warrior who fights wrong guy is worse than stupid, is traitor.

Tell me which left wing Judges Mitch McConnell did not vote to confirm. Then you might have a point.

Obviously issues of life are quite secondary to bruised feelings and getting revenge.

And you are a fool if you still think this is about revenge. This is about making a very evil tactic backfire so that it will not be attempted again in the future.

You may gain one Senate seat, but in so doing you will encourage the loss of many more by use of the same winning tactic of portraying the Tea Party as RACIST!

From the Democrats yes, but not from our own side. Not till now. McConnell did this evil thing, and we cannot allow him to reap the benefit of doing it.

If he gets away with it, others will do it too. They are already attempting it in Georgia.

If that is the break down for real, I will say McConnell will win the race. No way Kentucky turnout will be 50% Democrat. No Way!

I think McConnell is a RINO. He is not a good Senator. But his competition is a true blue Democrat.

Couldn’t they both lose?

Conservatives will just stay home. No one can force you to vote. A coerced vote is a wasted vote.

Scroll down about midway through the data and you’ll find
a question regarding political party affiliation.

No we just don’t like some douche bag who punches you in the face and then expects you to buy his lunch and vote for him 6 months later. He is truly dumber than a goat turd if he really thijks all is forgiven and we are one big tent happy family. And reall if Mitch thinks conservatives are racist kooks why would he want our votes now?
