Keep Talking, Joan: Comedienne Joan Rivers not backing down from her support for Israel
National Review ^ | 07/28/2014 | Ian Tuttle

Posted on 07/28/2014 5:30:30 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

‘Let me just tell you,” says Joan Rivers: “If New Jersey were firing rockets into New York, we would wipe them out. If we heard they were digging tunnels from New Jersey to New York, we would get rid of Jersey.”

Rivers — comedienne, fashion maven, Botox cautionary tale — has never been known for subtlety, so when a TMZ reporter seeking celebrity reactions to the conflict between Israel and Hamas snagged her, Rivers was characteristically frank: “Palestinians — you cannot throw rockets and expect people not to defend themselves!”

How has it come to pass that the host of E! Network’s Fashion Police and author of Men Are Stupid . . . And They Like Big Boobs: A Woman’s Guide to Beauty Through Plastic Surgery thinks more clearly about the Jewish state and its terrorist neighbors than the bulk of the American entertainment industry, the majority of global media, and the president of the United States? For someone on the crest of every trend, doesn’t Rivers know she is dangerously out of fashion on the subject of Israel?

Consider the statements of her fellow celebs: Actors Mark Ruffalo and John Cusack, actress and UNICEF ambassador Mia Farrow, and celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain have all tweeted support for Gaza, as has comedian Rob Schneider, who added, “To not be outraged at the killing of children is to risk your very soul. #Gaza.” Under pressure from Palestinian academics this spring, scientist Stephen Hawking withdrew from a conference at Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder interrupted a performance in the United Kingdom for a profanity-filled criticism of Israel, Comedy Central host Jon Stewart has earned accolades for his relentless criticism of Israel, and actress and pop star Selena Gomez posted “It’s about humanity. Pray for Gaza” to her Instagram.

I still don’t get this. It’s been said that she contributed to the Obama campaign!

She had to know “O’s” very pronounced sympathies for Islam and the typically lukewarm DNC attitude to Israel.

Why would she ONLY NOW, challenge all that?

Bibi missed a chance. He should have asked the UN to get Hamas to agree to a cease-fire back in March or June. In each of those months, Hamas launched more than forty rockets at random targets in Israel.

It would have been nice to get the UN reaction to such a request as a baseline for comparison.

RE: I still don’t get this. It’s been said that she contributed to the Obama campaign!

RACE and trying to prove you’re not racist has a way of blurring your moral compass.

Also, voting for someone simply because we “share the same ethnicity” trumps personal belief.

I have spoken for instance to many black church goers who oppose Obama’s support for abortion ( even partial birth abortion ), gay marriage, homosexuality, etc.

Yet, come election time, guess what? They vote for Obama anyway.

It’s as if all these social issues don’t count at all...

True.

Some people think nothing of professing ONE thing and then acting AS IF they never said held that belief.

I guess that is the functional definition of ‘unprincipled’ or ‘unscrupulous’.

It’s absolutely phony and certainly stupid!

It isn’t just black church goers who oppose the things you mentioned, but many whites as well who attend liberal churches - who vote DEMONcrat. Guess they are truly ignorant of the Word:

Ephesians 5:11: And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the LORD? Therefore the wrath of the LORD is upon you.” 2 Chronicles 19:2

Here’s the question many church goers face:

Between losing your government benefit (whatever it is ) and losing morality and right and wrong in our society, which should concern you more?

I have discovered that VERBALLY, they would say that morality, right and wrong are more important.

PRACTICALLY, they are more concerned with losing their government benefits and vote accordingly.

$100 million will help the North Korean economy...
Man oh man! Is America screwed up... or what?

My Social Security payments are NOT a bleeding ‘benefit’!
I paid my ‘40 quarters’ and more, so you cannot put that on the same level as some puke sitting on the stoop waiting for their not-needing-to-work-’cause_i-get-da-money check.

Do I rant against the gov’mint? fredunclecharliekate YES! Does it bother me what might happen? No. Why? I don’t have any debts. I don’t have a money pit automobile. My housing costs are less than 30% of my funds.

Do i wish for impeachment of this clown usurper in The people’s house? Again, YES!

Do i wish for a purge of all members of Congress who are on the roll members of a Communist or Socialist Party? Again, YES!

Do i wish for the cessation of existence of the IRS? YES!

Now, once you’ve got it straight, that Social Security is NOT a ‘benefit’, then I’ll shut up.

I didn't vote for Obama - obviously ... BUT I never thought he'd be as bad a President as he's been.

Obama's turned out to be a creepy totalitarian type with a big chip on his shoulder and a knack for finding arrogant pricks like Lois Lerner to work for him. He's astroturf and paid trolls all the way.

I'm sure Joan Rivers regrets giving money to Obama's campaign. Most Americans (except blacks) regret voting for Obama. A majority wish wish Romney had been elected...

Be joyful that Joan Rivers has seen the light... encourage others to see the truth. We share in her growth as a person... we're happy for Joan Rivers.

“I'm sure Joan Rivers regrets giving money to Obama’s campaign”

Has she publicly said as much?

I'd like to see THAT. I'd think a great deal more of her if she would be very vocal about it and specifically SAY she regrets it... not just that she disagrees with “O’s” stand on recent events in Israel.

Good point.

Joan River’s still a Democrat - just not a knee jerk stupid one... So you’re right... maybe this is just an ‘inside the family’ type disagreement. Which is fine. It’s still nice to see her come to our side on supporting Israel.

Reminds me of the women on “The View” - three who came out in favor of gun rights. They’re still democrats... but not totally stupid knee-jerk democrats. It’s a small step in the right direction... but a step none the less.
