Amid Israel’s Operation Protective Edge to stop Hamas attacks from Gaza, a “Freedom Flotilla” is being organized in Turkey to bring humanitarian aid to the Hamas-controlled Palestinian coastal enclave with the protection of the Turkish military, according to an unconfirmed media report.

The flotilla, called “Freedom Flotilla II,” is being organized by the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), the same organization that was behind the Mavi Marmara flotilla that sought to break Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip in May 2010.

Israel Navy commandos boarded the ship, were attacked, and killed nine of the attackers.

Turkey has become more radicalized through these past few years.

Hussein is chummy with the Turkish leader.

“there are too many idiot nations out there that might want to come to it’s defense. Russia and this mad-dog Vlad come to mind.”

Russia appears to be on Israel’s side, this time.

In direct opposition to OBAMA....

I am thinking a malfunctioning Hamas rocket will veer east and hit this vessel. If it doesn’t sink it, a second malfunctioning Hamas rocket will veer east and .....

Or they could hit an old WWII mine that just surfaced.

They fought in Korea with us and the UN and handed the British their butts at Gallipoli. A bad mistake anyone could make would be to underestimate Turkish military capabilities. They’re some tough hombres.

What kind of humanitarian supplies were found on Freedom Flotilla I ?

Oh you know, rockets, bombs, grenades, AK47s, RPGs, SAMs, howitzers, IEDs. All the things that the common people need to survive on.

Another IHH Turkish provocation???? Does Turkey want to provoke a war with Israel? Turkey is a NATO member. Turkey under the current Erdowan (sp?) is becoming more and more radical and anti-semetic. The Israeli Air Force provided Turkey with many military upgrades to their F-4s but should a Turkish pilot go up against an Israeli one, it’s in the sink for the Turks. Same holds true for the navies. Israel will sink the Turkish Navy if provoked. Then of course the Muslims will cry foul like they always do.

I have noted, several times, that Official Russia is much quieter this time around, than they ever have been in the past. Other than a few denounciations, they haven’t done much, especially at the UN.

IMO, this is as much due to the “New” relationship between Bibi and Putin, as it is to poke a stick in Obama’s eye, who DEFINATELY seems to be favoring Hamas.

I looked it up and was surprised myself. They are indeed a member.

I think it is EU membership that has been contentious the last few years.

"This could get very ugly."

Agree.

Isn't Turkey in NATO and wouldn't an attack on them require a response from other NATO members...including us?

according to an unconfirmed media report

The key word here is "unconfirmed". My bet is that someone is just trying to stir the pot a bit here. Turkish regulars on the flotilla? No way.

Armed Turkish volunteers? Possibly.

The Ottomans defended Gallipoli then lost their empire and the would be Sultan ended up retiring from the NY Public Library.

What are the Turks going to do? March through Syria or Iraq. Or better yet attack with its Navy?

It took toughness in the days of Calvary but it takes technical knowledge in the 21st Century.

Ergodan has purged the military of its most capable secular officers.

If they want to try this again they won’t like the results..Israel isn’t gonna stand by and allow them to bring in more rockets to their BFF’s Hamas

But not an attack from Turkey.

The USA was also obligated by Treaty to aid Argentina during the Falklands War due to our obligations as signatories of the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance.

You are correct.

Acting out of character, Russia will not take Turkey’s side in any conflict between them and Israel. On the surface Russia may make a bit of disingenuous noise in support of Turkey...but it will just be noise.

Russia is pissed at the actions of our feckless president and looking for any way to embarrass him.

On paper Turkey looks formidable but in a real dust-up with Israel they would very quickly get their ass handed to them.

And after that occurs, Erdogan will suffer Galtieri's fate.

A lot of useless medical supplies due to being poorly packed and unsterile, medicines either out of date or nearly our of date and thus useless, some construction materials. It was clearly just a provocation.

Dumb question.

Didn’t Israel destroy the port in Gaza a few years ago...how does this ship dock?

Erdogan is loathsome.

He needs a midnight visit from some secular Turkish military types.
