US intel official warns against toppling Hamas
Times of Israel ^ | 7/27/2014 | Lazar Berman

Speaking at a high-level security conference in Aspen, Colorado, outgoing US Defense Intelligence Agency head Michael Flynn warned against the dangers of toppling Hamas, saying what may replace the Islamist group could be even worse.

“If Hamas were destroyed and gone, we would probably end up with something much worse. The region would end up with something much worse,” Flynn, a lieutenant general, told the conference Saturday, according to Reuters.

He warned that with Hamas out of the picture, the Islamic State, or something like the brutal Islamist group ruling over parts of Syria and Iraq, could take its place.

Flynn also said that he was pessimistic about the Middle East’s future. “Is there going to be a peace in the Middle East? Not in my lifetime,” he said.

In June, Egypt arrested 15 men it said belonged to the Islamic State as they crossed from Rafah into the Sinai Peninsula. In addition, videos have emerged on YouTube showing masked men pledging allegiance to IS and firing rockets at Israel.

Hamas denies the presence of IS members in the Gaza Strip.

The number of Palestinians killed reached 1,047 in 19 days of fighting, while more than 6,000 wounded, Hamas health officials said. Forty-three Israeli soldiers and three civilians have also been killed.

Random rocket attacks vs heads on pikes & forced clitorectomies.

ISIS was too batshit crazy evil even for Al Quaida.
ISIS is so evil you’d rather have Hamas in charge.

“He warned that with Hamas out of the picture, the Islamic State, or something like the brutal Islamist group ruling over parts of Syria and Iraq, could take its place.”

Sure. And if you don’t put a coat on when it rains, you could catch your death of a cold.

Get rid of Hamas. Do not allow any other nutbags to take their place. Allow local, demilitarized autonomy, but keep holding what happened to Hamas up as an object lesson in what happens to people who are determined to piss us off.

Note that there is no breakdown of how many Palis killed/wounded were combatants vs. civilians, and that all that are counted are Israeli killed, not wounded, but with the breakdown.

Hamas has started to lose its grip on the “hearts and minds” of Gaza, and Kerry is all-in with the Hamas demands regarding a ceasefire — so naturally, the answer is yes.

How about random rocket attacks and mass murder of dissenters (2007) vs. a humane but tough occupation, and the return of Gush Khatif exiles to their homes, the strip to slowly morph into assimilation into the State of Israel over several decades. Those that don’t like it can leave. Those that do can thrive and participate. Or, in the alternative, give it to Egypt and let them have the headache.

There always has to be an enemy so there can be large funds to the DIA.

A couple of things to add some perspective:

Hamas Support

Iran - political, economic, intel, funneling of assets and personnel

Turkey - military items, transportation, funneling of assets and personnel

There is another boatload of mil recruits coming to Gaza from Turkey right now. Same as the attempt a few months ago that was intercepted by Israel.
Lets see if any "peace activists" and other "targets of opportunity" attache themselves to this one...;)
