NY Times ^ | DAVID E. SANGER and ERIC SCHMITT

The Pentagon and American intelligence agencies are developing plans that would enable the Obama administration to provide specific locations of surface-to-air missiles controlled by Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine so the Ukrainian government could target them for destruction, American officials said.

Excellent. Sorry if the Russians happen to be there. Why aren’t they in Russia? Did they get lost?

Then they will die, just like the Americans who were shot down by Russian pilots over the skies of Korea and Vietnam. Did the NKPA and the NVA get Russian intel for targeting US forces? Check. Did they get billions of dollars of Russian weaponry? Check. What's playing out isn't the Sum of All Fears". It's a combination of "The Beast", "Rambo III" and "Red Dawn", with the Russians playing themselves.

Also see your point (and is a Great point) we could be setting up to kill some russian advisors, if they happen to be in the area. Good thing this information was released /sarcasm ... Now putin can kill a few of his russian advisors at a missile launch site with a strike and blame it one U.S., if advisors are at the launch sites.

Bottom line is that the Russians helped kill 100K Americans in Korea and Vietnam. Any small contribution towards repaying that favor via token material and intel assistance to Ukraine can only be described as deeply satisfying.

The thing is that the Obama administration won’t let the Pentagon do this, as he said that it would be too “destablizing”.

Excuse me. When the Ukrainians surrendered the world’s third largest nuclear arsenal, they received “iron clad” security guarantees from the U.S. and U.K. in form of treaty obligations, equivalent to our mutual commitment to NATO. (NATO is not involved, since they are only required to respond to an attack on a fellow NATO country.) The very least we should be supplying the Ukraine is material, logistical and intelligence support.

They did not get an iron clad treaty or a NATO equivalent promise. They got a promise from a president, that’s it.

I can’t believe it but The Huffington Post has a informative article on your point.

One part of it.

If the end goal of the U.S. is to isolate Russia by prying away its former Eastern European satellites, and destroy Russia’s economy further, tough talk and sanctions are the way to go.

But, this is very dangerous and may lead to unanticipated consequences.

Putin, a fervent nationalist, has been feeling under attack by pro-U.S. influences and economic power for some time now. The ring of pro-Russian countries that buffered the Soviet Union is almost gone. NATO is closing in on Russia’s territory. Twelve former Warsaw Pact nations and republics have joined NATO, a military alliance historically directed against Russia:

Not only is this factually untrue, it misrepresents the nature of the relationship that existed between Russia, Ukraine and the West at the time.

I'd have to agree. It was pretty stupid (not to mention ungrateful) of the Russians to help the NKPA and the NVA kill GI's, especially after we gave them huge amounts of material aid during WWII. Aid that saved millions of Russians from famine and/or death.
